I stand on shakes legs, knowing Lucian was just on the other side of the door, still alive... for now.
I reach for Reds gun and hold it out in front of me and I edge towards the room.
'What the fuck is taking so long.' Gabriela screams from the other side of the door.
I hear her foot steps stalking across the room before the door swings open. Her eyes widen as they land on me, the one person she wasn't expecting to see holding a gun.
'What did you do?' She utters, looking at my blood coated hands.
I take a step towards her, causing her to take a step back in response as I hold my finger on the trigger, ready to shoot her if she tried anything. The second I set foot in the study Lucians eyes shoot up to meet mine. A single tear slides down his face as he lets out a shaky breath.
'Drop the gun.' I shouted at Gabriela, looking at the pistol by her side.
I didn't think shed do it. I thought she was crazy enough to try and shoot me, but luckily she listened to me, dropping it on the floor by her feet.
'I thought I'd lost you.' Lucian whispers. 'I told you to stay in that room.' He tells me with more annoyance in his voice.
'And let her kill you?'
'I wouldn't... I wasn't going to.' She blurts out, trying to defend herself as I pointed the gun at her.
'Then what are you doing here?'
She lets out a breath, before speaking.
'I wanted to teach him a lesson.' She tells me giving Lucian a pointed look.
'For what? Marrying me?'
She scoffs at that.
'Hardly...'
'Tell me then.' I shout at her.
'He paid my father to keep me away. Paid him off to forget about the arrangement he so desperately wanted before. I was so angry when daddy lead Lucian to us.' She says, smiling to herself as she looked at the floor. 'It was the last time he'll ever cross me.'
'Why?'
'I killed him.' She admits without a care in the world.
'You killed your own father?'
'Daddy deserved it.'
'Because he stopped you from torturing me?'
'Just forget it Anna, she's crazy. Untie me.' Lucian calls
'I'm not fucking crazy.' She hissed at him, taking a step towards him.
'Stop.' I shout, aiming the gun at her.
She pauses, holding her hands up before a wicked smile spreads across her face.
'He wasn't a very nice man.' She says, going back to her story about her father. 'You know he beat me after you fucked me?' She says looking at Lucian. 'He called me a useless whore and beat me after you turned me down after you used me.'
Lucian doesn't say anything as she tells her story.
'I wish that was the worst of it.' She says, looking off into a dark corner of the room as she relived something in her own mind. 'He would tell me how much I looked like mummy when he'd come to me at night. This was after he killed her of course. At first I tried to stop him, but he would just keep coming back night after night. It was all I was good for until I was old enough for him to marry me off so he could expand his territory. I was a pawn to him. I was only a child when it first started and it never stopped. I was so desperate to get away from him that I actually wanted to marry you.' She tells Lucian.
My heart broke for her.
The gun lowered in my hand as I looked at the sadness in her eyes. I felt her grief. I wept for the little girl who had to suffer at the hands of her own father. This wasn't her fault, none of this was. Her father had crushed her the first time he did what he did, but she was strong enough to keep going.
I couldn't even imagine what she'd been through. I couldn't help but compare my life to hers. Both of us had lost our mothers, but both of our life's took very different paths.
I'd never thought I'd be grateful for a father who gambled my life away, losing me as a payment for debt, but suddenly I was. My life could have been so much worse than it was. I could have been in Gabriela's shoes, but lucky for me fate had another plan.
'I'm sorry that happened to you.' I tell her, but from the way her head snapped around and a sinister laugh escaped her it wasn't what she wanted to hear.
'I don't need your pity.' She growls after the laughter had died down.
'Anna, untie me now.' Lucians breathes out and it's not until I hear the weakness in his voice I'm reminded of the stab wounds, drenching his dark clothing in blood.
I dart to his side taking my eyes off Gabriela and the second my hand touches the restraints she lunges for me, knocking me off my feet. In an effort to protect my head as I'm tackled to the floor, I drop the gun.
I scramble on the floor with Gabriela on top of me as we fight our way to the gun. My fingers brush the hard metal, but Gabriela smacks it away, sending it flying across the floor as she pulls on my hair.
'You ruined everything.' She growls into my ear as he slams my head forward, smacking it against the wood floor.
'Get the fuck off of her Gabriela.' Lucian shouts at her.
It's hard to focus as my head spins, but I still try to fight her off as I roll over onto my back, swinging my arms at her. When my hand smacks her across the face she falls to the side, giving me room to move. I look back at the gun on the far side of the room and run for it. Gabriela runs for me, but as she moves past Lucian he sticks his foot out, sending her flying to the floor.
I almost cry when I touch the gun, grasping it by the handle, pointing it at Gabriela.
'It's over.' I tell her as she drags herself up from the floor.
'It's over when I say it's over.' She threatens as she lunges for me.
I don't know whether she didn't care I had a gun aimed at her or if she believed I wouldn't use it, but either way she threw herself at me again, ready to fight me to the death for what I had, but I had a family to protect. I had myself and a baby to think about. I had to help Lucian before he bled out, so I pulled the trigger, stopping her dead in her tracks.
'You... you shot me.' Was the last thing she said as she dropped to the floor, unmoving as a pool of blood spread out from under her.
'Anna.' Lucian spoke in a weak voice, pulling me back from my trance.
I ran to him, untying him from the chair before I helped him walk from the room to the front of the house. I reached for the keys in his pockets, ready to drive him to the hospital, but as I pushed the front door open several police cars came speeding up the driveway, followed by an ambulance.
At the sight I broke down crying, feeling my emotions take over. It was over now. She was gone and I had nothing else to worry about. Well... not dying anyway.
