The night was quieter than usual. The soft glow of candlelight flickered across the room, casting shadows that swayed in rhythm with the gentle breeze flowing through the open windows. Sia’s heart felt heavy, but she wore the most serene smile on her face. She glanced over at Taehyung, who was walking beside her, radiating joy. His excitement was palpable, his eyes bright with anticipation as they approached the table at the center of the room. The decorations had been meticulously placed—the soft drapes, the delicate flowers, the twinkling lights—all chosen by Sia. It was perfect. To him, this was the best day of his life.
For her, it was something else entirely.
As they reached the table, Taehyung suddenly stopped, pulling her gently to a halt. His face broke into a wide grin, his eyes searching around as if trying to capture every detail of the moment.
“Sia,”
he began, a little breathless,
“let’s take some pictures. I want to remember this forever.”
His hand patted his pockets, searching for his phone, but his brows furrowed when he didn’t find it. He looked at her, a bit confused.
“Where’s my phone? I swear I had it with me.”
Sia’s smile softened, though a shadow of something darker lurked behind it. She tilted her head, meeting his gaze, and said calmly,
“I left both our phones at home. I didn’t want any distractions tonight.”
Taehyung pouted, clearly disappointed.
“But I wanted to capture this moment. This is so important… how could I not have pictures?”
His voice carried a playful whine as he looked at her, eager for her to indulge him.
She chuckled softly, leaning closer.
“You don’t need a phone, Taehyung. This night will be engraved in your mind… for a lifetime.”
He laughed, oblivious to the depth of her words, thinking she was simply being romantic.
“You’re right. I suppose we don’t need pictures to remember something this special.”
He gave her a loving glance, brushing off his disappointment.
As they reached the table, Sia began serving the dishes she had carefully prepared, her movements calm, graceful. Each dish was his favorite. She watched him, her heart heavy with a mix of emotions she could hardly put into words. While he dug into the food eagerly, eyes sparkling as he talked, she sat across from him, her expression unmoving but kind, filled with an odd blend of pain and joy.
Taehyung didn’t seem to notice.
“I can’t wait for our future together, Sia,” he said, between bites.
“I’ve been thinking about how we’ll decorate our home…maybe even have kids one day.” He chuckled.
“You’ll be the best mother, I know it. I’ll make sure we have everything we need. We’ll be happy, Sia. Just you and me.”
His voice was filled with genuine happiness, his love for her unmistakable. Sia listened, her mind swirling with thoughts. His words felt like a weight pressing against her chest, making it harder to breathe. She forced herself to smile and nod, keeping her pain hidden beneath the surface.
“Everything will be perfect, Taehyung,”
she murmured, her voice soft, almost fragile. He didn’t notice the sadness in her tone. How could he? He was lost in his dreams of the future. A future that she knew would never come.
