ANASTASIA HAD COME HOME FROM A QUITE LONELY DAY AT SCHOOL, Bella had been mute all day and hadn't bothered to even greet her, none of the Cullens had turned up that day. Carlisle had actually come to drive her to school and Bella was supposed to take her home, but he didn't know that Bella had actually just driven off without her.

But on the earlier journey to the school he was behaving a little more reserved than she'd ever seen him be, normally they'd talk for a good majority, sometimes they'd sit in a comfortable silence, but this silence just seemed so...

She was broken out of her thoughts by a pebble hitting the glass of her window. Thankfully it didn't break it, as she knew who was the one who threw it. As soon as she opened the window, she stepped back as she anticipated him jumping through the window.

And there he was, but he looked... tired? "Carlisle? Is everything alright?" she asked him, pushing aside anything she was currently feeling. She took his hand and led him to take a seat on the side of her bed, sitting beside him promptly.

"Ana, I need you to listen very carefully." he seemed to swallow deeply, his adam's apple bobbing as he did so.

"Of course." she agreed, placing one of her hands on top one of his cool ones. "Always."

"We have to make an extremely difficult decision, I assure you that this is the last thing I want to do, but Edward especially is adamant that it happens." then, he paused for a moment, the words seemingly difficult for him to form.

"We have to leave Forks."

The words were like a knife to her chest, she knew because they were what they were, they wouldn't be able to stay in Forks for a long time, but even so, she didn't expect it to be this soon. Was it because of what happened at Bella's birthday party? Was it because she got in the way of everything?

"It's not your fault, Ana. I promise you; I swear to you." he spoke rapidly as he tried to get her to look at him, move her gaze from anywhere but the floor, blink, do anything.

"I know it would be selfish of me to even ask for you to come with me, because of your Grams. I know that, but I'll come back to you, I will. I won't let you truly be away from me, the universe won't be able to keep you and I apart."

His words were like cherries, sweet or sour, they were inviting into her ears, but to her brain they were like tiny pins pricking at her skin, eventually bleeding her dry after a while.

"But I need you to promise me that you won't try and do anything rash to get me to come back. You need to promise me truly." he begged as she lifted her face slightly, looking up through the lids of her watering eyes into his.

"You know I won't be able to do such a thing." she whispered, her voice cracking slightly.

He sighed as he pulled her close to him. "I know, but I wish you would, it'd save the grey hairs from forming." he tried to joke to soften the mood, but he knew it was unsalvageable at this point.

"Goodnight, Ana." Carlisle whispered as he pressed a kiss to her lips, praying it wouldn't be the last time.

And then he was gone, as if it had all been a dream.

SHE COULDN'T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME THAT SHE SLEPT. It didn't feel right anymore, not when she could spend the entire night watching through the window, hoping she'd catch the first glimpse of him when he returned.

Anastasia hadn't received so much as a text from Bella Swan, she wasn't surprised, Bella and Edward were addicted to one another, it must've been terrible for her. Even if Bella wanted to talk to someone about her problems, she'd probably talk to Angela Weber or Jessica Stanley.

She felt like an outcast in the group quite early on, the girls always favoured Bella, and the boys were all a little creepy, a certain Mike Newton in particular. She usually stuck to Rosalie and Emmett as she slowly pulled away from the group of human teenagers.

Rosalie was a great friend, despite her attitude towards Bella, she never seemed to do it towards the other human - though she had never particularly said why.

Rosalie loved to shop for clothes and typically started the trends within the school, but she also loved mechanics and even offered to fix up a regular car into an insanely done up one for her, she declined - she didn't want to become a charity case.

Her days turned into a blur as they blended together; it was painful to drag herself from the window to cook for her grandmother's meals and clean the rest of the house so that her grandmother wouldn't have to suffer because of her mistakes.

After a while had passed, she lost the glimmer of hope that had remained inside of her, Bella had slipped into a severe depressive state, and Anastasia had tried everything to get her out of it, but nothing seemed to work, she was like a living zombie.

The days turned even more cold now as the end of autumn rapidly approached the small town of Forks as November was brought upon them, the snow was a billowing cloak that enveloped it with a suddenness that Anastasia found herself shivering constantly.

She slung on her coat as she brushed through her hair with her hands before pressing a chaste kiss to her grandmother's cheek as she began her hike to the nearest place that sold her medication - the hospital on the other side of town.

The blanket of icy cold snow today was worse than it had been on the other days, it was times like these that she wished that she had enough to buy herself her own car. She had debated getting a job, but she was too busy with her schoolwork and taking care of Grams that she just found it difficult to have time to herself as it was.

Pulling out her purse, she double checked that she had the right amount of money left to be able to buy what she needed, just enough. Thank god, she thought. She'd recently had to spend money on some materials to fix up some of Grams' old clothes, which desperately needed her attention, they were wearing away quickly.

As she walked the streets, she felt her eyes beginning to water from the cold as her nose became numb. Though through her quickly-blurring eyes, she couldn't have mistaken it surely? It had to have been real.

She could've sworn that she saw him walking next to her.
