Outer Banks. Paradise on Earth. Or say they say. It's the sort of place where you either have two jobs or two houses.

There is Figure Eight, the rich side of the island. Home of the Kooks. Then, there is the south side or The Cut. Home of the working class who makes a living busing tables, washing yachts, running charters. The natural habitat of the Pogues. Lowest member of the food chain.

I was born on The Cut to a hard-working mother and father who tried to give me the best life they could despite being so poor. About a year ago though, my life turned upside down when my dad left. He got up early one morning to go on a "fishing trip," but he never returned. A week after he left, divorce papers arrived in the mail. It broke my heart. My mom, not so much. She remarried a full-on Kook a few months after the papers arrived in the mail. I kind of wonder if he isn't the reason my dad left in the first place.

Anyways, in the divorce my mom got custody of me, and I got my new "dad", Ezra, and his mansion on Figure Eight. I am constantly being dressed up and dragged off to lavish parties. Started going to the private school, the "Kook academy," with the rest of the rich kids who had more interest in shoes than surfing.

Growing up on The Cut made me who I am today, though. A Pogue at heart. The downside of Pogue life is that you're ignored and neglected. But the upside of Pogue life? You're ignored and neglected, which means you do whatever you want, whenever you want. I don't exactly have that freedom anymore since moving to the other side of the island, but I'm freshly 18 and graduated from high school, so the mission this summer is to have a good time, all of the time.
