Becky's POV:
I ran to the room from where the scream came through. As I rushed into the room, the sight before me broke my heart. Freen, usually the epitome of bravery, lay curled up in a ball, consumed by a nightmare. Her screams and sobs filled the air, and I knew I had to intervene carefully.
I slipped behind her in bed, gently trying to rouse her without startling her. But my touch only intensified her distress.
"Please don't hurt me, Mom. I didn't do anything. I didn't do that to him. I never knew..." she pleaded, her voice shaking.
Determined to calm her, I wrapped my arms around her, whispering softly in her ear, "Hey, you're safe here, Freen. You're in my arms. Don't cry."
Slowly, her breathing steadied, and her tears subsided. She turned to face me, her eyes filled with pain.
"Do you still need me, Becky?" she asked, her gaze searching.
"I love you, Freen, no matter what. I'm not going anywhere," I reassured her, my voice filled with emotion. "Will you let me in?"
She nodded slightly, and I sensed a glimmer of hope.
As she gazed at the ceiling, I thought she was dismissing me, but then she grasped my wrist.
"Stay," she whispered.
That single word was all I needed to hear. I settled beside her, holding her close. Initially, she tensed, but then her grip on my hand tightened.
"I'm not going anywhere, Freen," I promised, my voice barely above a whisper.
As she drifted off to sleep, lulled by the sound of my heartbeat, I wondered what traumas she had endured.
What secrets did you hide, Freen? I vowed to uncover them, to heal her completely.
