The room was cloaked in darkness, a heavy silence pressing against my ears. I was tangled in my sheets, gasping as remnants of my nightmare faded like smoke. Shadows twisted into grotesque shapes, and my heart pounded as I recalled the terror of being lost, alone, with no way out.

I sat up, trembling, trying to shake off the panic. That's when I heard it—a soft knock at the door. I blinked, half-expecting it to be a figment of my imagination, but the sound came again, gentle and reassuring.

"Hey, it's me," came a familiar voice, deep and warm. Rudolf.

I swung my legs over the side of the bed, the cool floor grounding me. "Come in," I called, my voice shaky.

He opened the door, his silhouette framed by the dim light from the hallway. His hair, tousled yet charming, caught the faint glow, and I couldn't help but smile despite the lingering fear. He stepped inside, concern etched on his face as he walked over to where I sat.

"I heard you moving around," he said softly, sitting down next to me on the bed. "Nightmare?"

I nodded, my fingers gripping the sheets. "Yeah, it was... it felt so real."

He reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. "Wanna talk about it?"

I hesitated, but the warmth of his presence was comforting. "I was lost in a dark forest," I confessed. "I couldn't find my way out, and I kept hearing whispers... it was terrifying."

Rudolf's expression softened, his brow furrowing in empathy. "That sounds awful. But you're not lost now. You're here with me."

His words wrapped around me like a warm blanket, soothing the remnants of fear. I looked up into his eyes—those bright, caring eyes that always seemed to see right through me. "I know," I whispered. "I just... I hate that feeling."

"I get it," he said, his voice steady. "But remember, I'll always be here. You're never alone, not even in your dreams."

I smiled, feeling a little lighter. "Thanks, Rudolf. That means a lot."

He shifted closer, resting his hand on mine, his warmth radiating through me. "How about we distract you for a bit? Want to talk about something fun?"

I chuckled softly, grateful for his presence. "Like what?"

"Let's see... how about we plan our next adventure? Maybe a road trip or a concert?" He grinned, that infectious energy sparking between us.

"Definitely a concert," I replied, feeling the shadows of my nightmare retreat further. "We could go see that band you love."

"Perfect! I'll get the tickets, and we'll make a whole day of it. Just you, me, and music," he said, his enthusiasm contagious.

I felt my heart swell at the thought. "I can't wait! And we could pack a picnic for the drive—maybe some of your favorite sandwiches?"

"Now you're speaking my language! You know me too well," he laughed, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

We continued to chat, the conversation flowing easily, like the music we both loved. As we exchanged ideas, I found myself leaning against him, comforted by his presence. The fear from my nightmare was a distant memory now, replaced by the warmth of his laughter.

Eventually, Rudolf leaned back, stretching his arms above his head, and I took a moment to appreciate the man beside me—his passion, his kindness, and the way he made me feel safe. It was incredible how someone could make such a big difference just by being there.

"Hey," he said, glancing at me with that serious look again, "if you ever feel scared or lost, just reach for me. I'll always find you, no matter where you are."

With a smile, I squeezed his hand. "I will. And thank you for being my light in the dark."

"Always," he replied softly.

Just then, I noticed the slight tremor in my fingers, a remnant of the fear that had washed over me. Rudolf must have sensed it, because he shifted even closer, wrapping his arm around my shoulders and pulling me into his side. I melted into his embrace, feeling the warmth and security radiate from him.

"Do you want to stay up a bit longer?" he asked, his voice low and soothing. "We could watch something funny or just talk. Whatever you need."

"Actually," I said, biting my lip, "could we just stay like this for a while? I really like being close to you right now."

His smile widened, and he nodded. "Of course. I could stay here forever if you'd let me."

As we settled into a comfortable silence, I listened to the steady rhythm of his breathing, letting it lull me into a state of calm. The world outside faded, leaving just the two of us in this cocoon of warmth. I could feel my heartbeat slowing, the edges of my anxiety softening.

"Sometimes, I think about how lucky I am," I murmured, glancing up at him. "You always know what to say to make me feel better."

Rudolf turned to me, his expression earnest. "You deserve it. You bring so much light into my life. I want to return the favor."

A rush of warmth spread through me, and I leaned in, pressing my forehead against his. "I feel safe with you. Even in the darkest moments."

He tilted my chin up, his eyes locked onto mine. "You should never feel anything less than that. You mean everything to me."

I could feel my cheeks warm as I searched his gaze, the sincerity in his words wrapping around my heart. "You have no idea how much that means to me, Rudolf."

He brushed his thumb gently across my cheek, and for a moment, the world outside ceased to exist. It was just us, wrapped in a bubble of comfort and love.

As the minutes slipped by, I finally felt the last remnants of my nightmare dissipate, replaced by the sweetness of our shared moments. I nestled closer, inhaling his familiar scent, allowing myself to drift into a serene state of contentment.

"Promise me something," I whispered, my voice barely above a breath.

"Anything," he replied, his gaze unwavering.

"If I ever wake up scared again, you'll come to me like this, okay?"

He smiled softly, his eyes shining in the dim light. "I promise. No matter the time, I'll always be there. Just call my name, and I'll be right by your side."

With that promise lingering in the air, I finally felt at peace. In the shadows of the night, I had found my solace in him—a love that could chase away any fear, no matter how dark.
