It was that time of year again – Halloween. The air was crisp, pumpkins lined the school’s entrance, and a slight chill danced in the evening breeze. The students of Hybe High were buzzing with excitement over the annual dare challenge. This year, the infamous haunted mansion, Blackwood Manor, was the target.

As expected, Minji and Hanni—popularly known as Bbangsaz, two girls who could never seem to get along—found themselves at the center of the school’s attention. Their "hate-to-love" dynamic was legendary. They had a Tom and Jerry relationship that always kept everyone on their toes, especially when they were dared to do something together.

“Are you scared, Minji?” Hanni teased, flipping her long hair over her shoulder with a smug smile. "I bet you’ll be crying for your life before we even get through the front door.”

Minji crossed her arms, rolling her eyes. “I’m not the one who screamed during last week’s biology experiment, Hanni. You’re the scaredy-cat here.”

A crowd gathered around them, sensing a challenge brewing. Someone in the back yelled, “I dare Bbangsaz to spend the night at Blackwood Manor!” Gasps and excited whispers filled the air as Minji and Hanni locked eyes, each daring the other to back down.

"Fine," Minji smirked, "if you can handle it."

Hanni shrugged. “Lead the way, Minji. I’m right behind you.”

The two made their way to the edge of the forest, where the dilapidated Blackwood Manor loomed in the moonlight. The place was rumored to be haunted, with tales of shadows moving on their own, whispers in empty rooms, and doors slamming shut by themselves. Yet, neither of them wanted to admit any fear, especially not in front of each other.

As they stepped inside, the door creaked ominously, closing behind them with a loud thud. Hanni jumped slightly, and Minji snickered, earning herself a sharp glare.

“Seriously?” Hanni huffed, crossing her arms. “It’s just an old house. You don’t have to act like a jerk.”

Minji raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “I thought you were the one who didn’t get scared easily, remember?”

Before Hanni could reply, a cold gust of wind swept through the room, rattling the windows and making the ancient chandeliers sway. A faint whisper echoed through the house, making both girls pause. Hanni instinctively grabbed Minji’s arm, but immediately let go, a blush creeping up her cheeks.

“Don’t think I need you or anything,” Hanni muttered.

Minji chuckled, rolling her eyes. “Whatever helps you sleep tonight, Hanni.”

They continued exploring, occasionally challenging each other to check out suspicious noises or open doors to dark, empty rooms. Just as Minji was about to call Hanni out for holding onto her arm for the fifth time, they heard a noise—a soft, eerie lullaby coming from upstairs.

“Are you hearing that?” Hanni whispered, looking genuinely shaken.

Minji gulped, though she tried to keep her face neutral. “It’s probably just… the wind.”

But even Minji couldn’t deny the chill crawling up her spine as the melody continued, growing louder. She took Hanni’s hand without thinking, pulling her toward the staircase.

“If there’s something up there, we’ll face it together,” she muttered, feeling Hanni’s grip tighten in response.

Together, they began climbing the stairs, each step creaking ominously beneath their feet. Neither girl wanted to admit it, but as they drew closer to the source of the eerie melody, they began to feel a strange sense of unity—a silent agreement that whatever lay ahead, they’d face it together.

And that was only the beginning.
