Minji barely had a moment to catch her breath before she sensed movement behind her. She turned just in time to see Danielle approaching, her expression blank, her eyes devoid of the warmth Minji was used to. In Danielle’s hand, a glint of metal caught the dim light—it was a heavy rod, one that would leave a serious mark if she struck with it.

“Dani…” Minji whispered, her heart heavy. She knew it wasn’t really her friend acting of her own will, but that didn’t make facing her any easier. The spirit had completely ensnared her, using her as a pawn in this twisted game.

The spirit’s voice echoed around her, dark and mocking. “You can’t harm me, Minji, but I can still harm you. And who better to do it than those you love?”

Minji stepped back, trying to keep distance as she glanced over at Hanni, who was also approaching, her movements jerky and controlled by the same sinister force. The spirit clearly intended to trap her, forcing her to confront her friends one by one.

“Hanni… Dani… please, I know you’re in there,” she called out, desperation in her voice. “You’re stronger than this. Don’t let it control you.”

But they didn’t respond, their expressions still locked in that cold, detached gaze. Hanni reached Minji first, raising her hand as if to strike. Minji’s heart ached, but instead of fighting back, she did something unexpected. She took a step closer, wrapping her arms around Hanni in a tight, fierce hug.

“I’m here, Hanni,” she whispered, her voice soft but firm. “I know you’re still in there, and I’m not giving up on you.”

As she held Hanni, Minji gently pressed a kiss on her forehead, hoping the gesture would reach her heart, breaking through the spirit’s dark hold. And, miraculously, it worked. Minji felt Hanni’s body stiffen, a shiver passing through her, as if fighting against an invisible grip. Slowly, Hanni’s eyes began to soften, a flicker of recognition returning.

“M-Minji…” Hanni’s voice was barely a whisper, but it was enough to tell Minji that she had reached her friend.

“Hanni, stay with me,” Minji urged, her grip never faltering. “Don’t let it pull you back. You’re stronger than this.”

But just as she was about to say more, a sudden, sharp pain exploded in her back. Minji staggered, her arms slipping from around Hanni as she collapsed to her knees, gasping in pain. Danielle had struck her with the metal rod, the blow heavy enough to make her vision blur for a moment.

The spirit’s laughter echoed, triumphant. “Your love may be strong, but it’s no match for my power. This is only the beginning, Minji.”

Hanni, now fully aware, stared in horror as she saw Danielle standing over Minji, her face twisted in an expression of cold detachment. “Dani! Stop!” Hanni shouted, reaching out to her friend. “This isn’t you!”

But the spirit’s hold on Danielle was strong, and she raised the metal rod again, preparing to strike a second time. Minji gritted her teeth, forcing herself to stand despite the pain. She faced Danielle, her eyes filled with determination.

“I won’t let you hurt my friends,” she said, her voice steady, even as her body ached.

Danielle’s arm swung down, but Minji caught it, her hand trembling with the effort. She knew she had to reach her friend before the spirit’s influence drove her to do something they would all regret.

“Danielle,” Minji said, her voice fierce. “It’s me, Minji. I know you’re in there. I need you to fight.”

For a brief moment, Danielle’s gaze flickered, confusion and pain flashing across her face as she looked at Minji. But the spirit’s grip tightened, and Danielle’s face twisted into a cruel smile, her movements jerking as she tried to pull free.

Minji tightened her grip, refusing to let go. “Dani, you’re my friend. I need you here with me. Remember who you are.”

With a final surge of determination, Minji pulled Danielle into a hug, refusing to let her friend fall into the spirit’s control. She whispered softly, “I believe in you, Dani. Please, come back.”

The warmth of Minji’s embrace and her unwavering belief seemed to pierce through the spirit’s dark influence. Slowly, Danielle’s stiffened body began to relax, her expression softening as she blinked, looking around in confusion.

“Minji…?” she murmured, as if waking from a dream.

“Yes, Dani,” Minji replied, relief flooding her voice. “You’re safe now.”

But their moment was short-lived. The spirit’s laughter erupted around them, furious and cold. “You think you’ve won?” it sneered. “This is only the beginning. I will make sure none of you escape this place.”

The room around them began to shift again, the shadows deepening, and the walls closing in. The spirit’s presence grew stronger, feeding off the fear and pain it had caused.

“We have to get out of here,” Hanni whispered, clinging to Minji’s side.

Minji nodded, her eyes filled with determination. “We will. But first, we need to break this spirit’s hold on this place. It’s feeding off our fear and pain. If we stay strong and together, we can weaken it.”

Hanni and Danielle nodded, their faces set with resolve. They knew this battle wasn’t over, but with Minji leading them, they felt a newfound strength. The spirit had underestimated their bond, and they were prepared to fight with everything they had.
