The ghostly figure drifted closer, her form becoming clearer. Her face was pale, almost translucent, and her eyes seemed hollow, staring past them into some faraway world. The four girls clung to each other, all their usual bravado forgotten in the presence of the unknown.
Hanni’s voice was barely a whisper. “We… we have to get out of here.”
Minji, trying to keep a steady face, nodded. “Right. Just stay calm, and we’ll walk out—together.”
But before they could even move, the ghostly figure raised her arm and pointed directly at them, her eyes narrowing. A chilling voice filled the room, echoing like a distant wind. “Why… have you disturbed my rest?”
None of them dared to speak. Their legs felt rooted to the floor, as if the room itself were holding them captive. Minji squeezed Hanni’s hand tightly, her heartbeat pounding in her ears, while Haerin held onto Dani with equal desperation.
“W-We’re sorry!” Dani blurted out, surprising everyone, including herself. “We didn’t mean to disturb you. We’ll leave… we promise!”
The ghost’s gaze softened slightly, but she did not move. Instead, she whispered, “To leave, you must each confront your fear.”
The four of them exchanged nervous glances. “Confront our… fears?” Haerin echoed, her voice shaky.
The ghost nodded slowly, and as she did, the room transformed around them. They found themselves in a long hallway, doors lining either side. Each door had a name carved into it: Minji, Hanni, Dani, and Haerin.
“Looks like we each have to go into our own rooms,” Minji said, her voice barely hiding her apprehension. “We’ll get through this. Meet back here as soon as you’re done, okay?”
One by one, they each went into their respective rooms, each of them dreading what lay beyond the door.

Minji’s Room:
The moment Minji stepped inside, the door shut behind her. She found herself in a dark, empty room. Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice—her own voice, mocking and taunting.
“You think you can protect everyone? That you’re strong enough?” the voice sneered. “But what about the ones you couldn’t protect?”
Memories flashed through her mind—friends she couldn’t save, moments where she’d failed, where her strength wasn’t enough. The weight of responsibility pressed down on her, suffocating her.
“No,” Minji whispered, clenching her fists. “I’m not perfect, but I’m not giving up. I’ll keep fighting to protect the people I care about.”
The voice faded, and the room brightened, signaling that she had passed her test. Minji took a shaky breath and prepared to face her friends once more.
---
Hanni’s Room:
Inside, Hanni was surrounded by mirrors, each reflecting a different version of herself—each one criticizing, belittling, laughing.
“You’re not good enough. They only keep you around because they feel sorry for you. Do you really think they care?”
Hanni looked at each reflection, her insecurities coming to life before her. She’d always tried to be brave, to brush off her self-doubt with humor, but now she felt exposed.
Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes. “My friends love me for who I am. I don’t have to be perfect. I don’t have to prove anything.”
The mirrors cracked, the voices silenced, and Hanni felt a surge of relief as the room returned to normal.
---
Dani’s Room:
Dani found herself in an endless maze. Every corner looked the same, every path twisted and confusing. A voice echoed around her, whispering, “You’re alone. You’ll always be lost… forever.”
Panic set in, but she forced herself to focus. “I’m not alone,” she told herself firmly, pushing back against the rising fear. “My friends are with me.”
With that, the maze disappeared, and Dani found herself back in the room, her heart racing but her confidence renewed.
---
Haerin’s Room:
Haerin’s room was silent, but it was the kind of silence that made her skin crawl. Shadows flickered around her, moving closer and closer, whispering, “You’re weak… fragile… too afraid.”
She shut her eyes, willing herself to be strong. “I’m not weak. I’m scared, yes, but I’m stronger with my friends by my side.”
The shadows receded, and Haerin felt a new sense of courage bloom within her as the room returned to normal.
---
Back in the hallway, they reunited, each one looking a little shaken but more determined than ever.
The ghost appeared before them once more, her face softened. “You have faced your fears,” she said. “You may leave.”
As she faded away, the doors of the manor creaked open, revealing the path to the outside. The four girls stepped into the fresh night air, each of them feeling lighter, like they’d left more than just a haunted house behind.
They looked at each other, realizing that something had changed between them. The banter, the rivalry, the walls they’d put up—all seemed less important now.
“So… we made it,” Hanni said, flashing a grin. “Who knew we’d actually survive a haunted house together?”
Dani laughed, nudging Minji. “Guess we’re stronger as a team.”
Minji smirked, rolling her eyes. “Don’t get used to it. We might be friends now, but I’m still going to beat you in everything.”
Haerin chuckled softly, the fear of the night replaced with a newfound confidence. “Yeah, sure, Minji. We’ll see about that.”
And as they walked back, they all knew this night had marked a beginning—a shift from rivalry to an unbreakable bond forged through fear, trust, and friendship.
