Inside the small room, Minji realized something crucial—the spirit couldn’t enter. The ancient book must have acted as a shield, creating a safe haven against its dark presence. This room was her friends’ only protection, but she knew it couldn’t hold them forever.

Minji took a shaky breath, feeling the weight of her decision. If she faced the spirit alone, there was a high chance she wouldn’t survive. But she was willing to risk it if it meant her friends would stay safe. Her gaze fell on Hanni, who was watching her with wide, worried eyes.

“Minji… don’t,” Hanni whispered, her voice thick with fear.

Minji smiled softly, reaching out to cup Hanni’s face. “Hanni, listen to me. You have to stay here, where it’s safe. I have to do this, for all of you.” She paused, the words she had hidden in her heart finally rising to the surface. “I love you, Hanni. I always have. You’re my strength, my everything.”

Hanni’s eyes glistened with tears as she tried to process Minji’s confession, but before she could respond, Minji leaned in, pressing her lips to Hanni’s in a gentle, lingering kiss. It was both a goodbye and a promise, a final act of love that she hoped would give her the strength to face what lay ahead.

“Stay safe,” Minji whispered against her lips before pulling back. Without another word, she stepped outside, closing the door behind her and bracing herself for the fight.

The corridor was dark, the spirit’s ominous presence intensifying as Minji moved forward. It seemed to sense her determination, her unwillingness to back down, and its rage grew, twisting the air around her into a suffocating force.

With every step, Minji’s heart beat louder, her love for her friends fueling her courage. She was ready to face whatever nightmares the spirit could conjure, but the moment she squared up against it, she felt a sharp pain radiate through her body as it attacked. Shadows curled around her, pulling her down, forcing her to her knees.

Inside the room, Hanni was pacing frantically, her heart racing as she replayed Minji’s words. The sound of the struggle outside echoed in her mind, the thought of Minji out there alone tearing at her soul. She couldn’t sit by while Minji risked everything.

Against Danielle and Haerin’s protests, Hanni pushed the door open and rushed outside. The spirit noticed her immediately, sensing the intense fear and panic radiating from her—the fear of losing Minji. A twisted, triumphant smile appeared on its face as it saw its chance to truly break Minji.

“Hanni!” Minji screamed, seeing her friend step into the hallway. Her heart dropped as she realized the spirit’s new plan. But it was too late—the spirit’s dark energy enveloped Hanni, her body stiffening, her eyes glazing over as it took control.

A sinister voice escaped from Hanni’s lips, her expression twisted in a cruel, mocking smile. “You thought you could escape me, Minji? I have her now… and she’s stronger than you.”

Minji’s heart broke as she looked into Hanni’s lifeless eyes. She had come out here to save them, to protect them from the spirit’s influence, and now the very person she loved the most was its weapon. Tears stung her eyes, but she forced herself to stay strong, her voice trembling as she addressed the spirit.

“Let her go!” Minji’s voice was fierce, filled with both rage and despair. “If you want someone to fight, fight me.”

The spirit sneered, controlling Hanni’s every move, making her advance toward Minji with a threatening gaze. “Why would I let her go when she’s the perfect weapon against you?” Hanni’s voice was twisted, tainted by the spirit’s malice. “You’re weak, Minji, and you’ll fail to protect everyone you love.”

Danielle and Haerin rushed to Minji’s side, their faces pale but determined. “Minji, we’re with you,” Danielle whispered, her hand gripping Minji’s shoulder. “We’ll get Hanni back.”

Hanni, possessed by the spirit, lashed out, her movements controlled and brutal, forcing Minji to dodge and deflect, though every blow tore at her heart. Fighting the spirit was one thing, but fighting Hanni—her best friend, the one she loved—was a nightmare she never thought she’d face.

“Hanni,” Minji murmured, her voice choked with emotion. “I know you’re still in there. I know you’re stronger than this. Please… come back to me.”

The spirit merely laughed, making Hanni’s hand reach out to grab Minji, forcing her back. “She’s mine now, Minji. And there’s nothing you can do.”

But Minji refused to give up. She took a step closer, risking everything to reach out, ignoring the spirit’s taunts. “Hanni, you’re not alone. We’re here with you, and we’ll fight until we get you back.”

For a brief moment, Hanni’s eyes flickered, a hint of recognition flashing across them before the spirit reasserted its control. But that moment gave Minji a sliver of hope, a glimpse of the Hanni she knew fighting from within.

“Hanni, you once told me I’m the strongest person you know. But that’s not true,” Minji whispered, her voice trembling but steady. “You’re strong. You’re brave. And I believe in you.”

The spirit, sensing its grip weakening, lashed out, making Hanni’s body shudder as it tried to tighten its hold. But Minji’s love and determination were a force too powerful for it to ignore. It roared in frustration, its shadowy form flickering as it struggled to maintain control.

“Hanni, fight it!” Danielle shouted, joining Minji’s side with Haerin. Together, they stood as a united front, their combined voices calling out to their friend, urging her to break free.

Inside Hanni, a fierce battle raged as she fought against the spirit’s hold, fueled by her friends’ unwavering support. Slowly, painfully, she began to push the spirit back, her eyes clearing as her true self emerged.

“No,” the spirit hissed, its grip faltering as Hanni’s willpower grew stronger. “You can’t break free!”

With a final surge of strength, Hanni broke through, forcing the spirit out of her body. She gasped, collapsing into Minji’s arms as the dark mist dissipated, swirling into a corner of the room, wounded but not defeated.

The spirit’s voice echoed around them, filled with fury and desperation. “You may have escaped for now, but I am not finished. I will destroy you all… starting with the one you care about the most, Minji.”

Minji tightened her hold on Hanni, relief flooding her as she felt Hanni’s warmth, her friend safe for now. But she knew the battle was far from over. The spirit was still lurking, waiting for its next opportunity.

Hanni looked up at Minji, her eyes filled with gratitude and a lingering fear. “Minji… I’m so sorry. I couldn’t… I couldn’t stop it.”

Minji shook her head, brushing a strand of hair from Hanni’s face. “You were incredible, Hanni. You fought back. And I’ll keep fighting too, until this is over.”

Haerin and Danielle stood beside them, their faces determined. “We’re not letting this thing win,” Danielle declared, her voice fierce. “We’ll find a way to destroy it, once and for all.”

Minji nodded, feeling the strength of their bond reinvigorate her. The spirit’s power was formidable, but so was their friendship. As long as they stayed united, they knew they could face any darkness that came their way.

But in the shadows, the spirit lurked, plotting its next move, determined to break them. And Minji knew, deep down, that the final battle was only just beginning.
