TWO BIRDS, ONE HEART
The next morning, Elisabeth stood before the long mirror, adjusting the collar of her soft, purple pastel dress.
Her look was elegant yet simple, her makeup light but classic, with a touch of red lipstick adding just the right pop of color.
As she fussed with the delicate lace at her wrist, she caught movement in the reflection.
Jackie had just stepped out from the wardrobe room, his hands busy trying to straighten his tie.
He fumbled with it, muttering under his breath, and cast a quick, almost glance in her direction.
Elisabeth pretended not to notice, keeping her gaze fixed on her reflection as she adjusted a loose strand of hair, though she couldn’t ignore the way Jackie’s eyes kept darting over to her, clearly hoping to catch her attention.
Her expression remained calm. She hadn’t forgotten their argument two days ago. It still stung her.

Eventually, though, her gaze flicked up, meeting his in the mirror.
Jackie raised his eyebrows slightly, giving her a small, hopeful smile. “Well, I could use some help with this tie,” he admitted, his tone light. “Unless, of course, you’re too busy.”
She hesitated, her irritation softened just a little by his attempt to bridge the gap.
After a pause, she moved toward him, carefully beginning to fix his tie with practiced hands.
“I’d hate to see you look unpresentable,” she murmured, keeping her tone calm and professional, though her fingers lingered on the fabric just a bit longer than necessary.
Jackie watched her, grateful, and quietly knowing he’d have to work harder to regain her full trust.
For now, though, he was happy she was close again, even if only in this quiet moment.
She kept her eyes on it, her expression still reserved, though Jackie could see the faintest trace of a smile pulling at the corners of her mouth.
After finishing the knot, she started to pull back, but Jackie reached out, catching her hand in his.
