RESPECT EARNED, NOT GIVEN
Johnny had summoned his children with an important announcement, and both Jackie and Elisabeth had a sense of what was coming.
As they entered the grand hall, servants hurried to take their coats, and they made their way to the drawing room where the rest of the family was already gathered.
Johnny stood by the grand fireplace, his posture proud and his expression firm.
Diane, his second wife, sat beside him, her face barely concealing her displeasure.
Tommy, her son, stood nearby with a curious look, while Jackie, Penelope and Jake, watched with apprehension.
Once everyone settled, Johnny cleared his throat. "I've made my decision," he announced, his voice firm and authority. "The East End territory will go to Jackie, effective immediately. He's earned it, and he has the strength to keep it under control."
All proud eyes turned to Jackie except Diane and Tommy.
Jackie stood silently beside Elisabeth, his face unreadable, but a subtle pride in his gaze.
Diane's face tightened, her lips pressing into a thin line as she struggled to hold back her frustration.
"This is... unfair, Johnny," she protested, her tone laced with frustration. "Tommy should be given the chance. Jackie already has more than enough power, and now you're giving him the East End?"
Johnny raised an eyebrow at her, but it was clear his decision was firm. "The East End needs someone who can handle it. Jackie's proven himself, again and again."
Diane scoffed, glancing at Elisabeth as well with a bitterness.
"Of course. Let's hand everything to Jackie, as if the rest of us don't exist. And with her controlling the North, they're practically unstoppable," She trailed off, throwing an accusatory glance at Elisabeth. "You've seen what the Aldridge family controls. Marrying Jackie just expanded their reach even more."
Elisabeth met Diane's glare with calm, an unshakable in her gaze. "Mrs Ashford, I didn't come here to take anything from this family. Jackie and I work as a team, but we've earned our places independently. My family's strength is an asset, not a threat."
Diane's expression soured further, her fingers digging into the armrest as if she might tear through the fabric. "You think it's that simple? You may be Aldridge by blood, but remember, this is the Ashford family. Jackie wouldn't be where he is if it weren't for-"
"Watch your mouth, Diane. You talked to my wife-" Jackie almost threatened his step mother but was cut short.
"Enough," Johnny cut in sharply, his gaze stern as he looked at Diane. "I've made my decision, and there'll be no more discussion. Jackie has proven himself capable, and he will lead the East End."
