[⛧ prompt: you divorce dave after losing love for him,, angst]

"dave..?" you called for your husband, walking into his bedroom. he had his back facing you, his head buried into his laptop like always.

he turned around to face you, cocking his head and cracking a tiny smile on his lips.

"can i talk to you for a second." you pushed his door wider and entered his room without another second.

you paused to process what to say next, only for dave to shut his laptop closed. he then moved to his bed and sat down, eagerly patting the empty space next to him.

hesitantly joining him, you sighed deeply and closed your eyes. dave sensed you were feeling a certain way and went to console you.

he placed a hand on your thigh, lifting your chin up with his other hand, "please tell me what's on your mind love, i hate seeing you like this."

tears began to prick your eyes, "fuck.." you whispered, biting down on your bottom lip to try and stop the tears that desperately tried crawling out your eyes.

"i.. i'm so sorry.." the tears came quick, as you began to sob into your hands, pushing away dave's soft touch with your arms. you felt like you didn't deserve him.

you felt like such a monster.

"y/n.. darling.. what's on your mind..?" your husbands voice slightly cracked, "you're scaring me.. i need to know what's going on so i can help.."

you sobbed even harder, trying your best to calm yourself down. "dave.. i.. don't love you anymore.." you finally managed to whisper out.

silence.

dave ruffled his hair, as if he didn't believe a word you said. he instead stared at you with intense horror, praying to any God up above if you were joking.

"y/n.. you're joking.. you're trying to make me laugh right..?" he was still staring at you in disbelief.

"i want a divorce." you stifled your sob, rubbing your bloodshot eyes and refusing to make eye-contact with your now ex-husband.

"w-what did i even do for you to fall out of love with me?" he began to cry. his sobs shook your eardrums and forced your heart to beat faster.

"i'm sorry. my stuff is all ready to go.." your voice wavered in sadness, you sniffled and gave a brief smile before standing back up and biting down on your bottom lip again.

"it's for the best.." you reminded yourself outloud. dave's face scrunched up in utter pain and grief, as you quietly walked away from him on his bed and left his room.

"y/n. please come back to me." dave cried out, following you from behind. you turned back around and wrapped your arms around his neck.

for the last time, you pressed your lips up against his cheek and softly grazed the back of his neck with your fingers. he always loved it when you did that.

dave almost stumbled back, removing his sunglasses to get one last final look at you. he shook his head and stared down as his feet, as you turned around and walked away.

the tension in the room was so thick you could scarcely cut it with a sharp knife, as dave watched you pile on your suitcases of all your belongings.

"where will you live?" he finally spoke after many minutes of prolonged silence. "it's my time to leave.." you whispered, unable to answer his question.

and with that, you left.
