I should not be heading to his car.
I should not be thinking this could be a thing.
I should not think this is okay.
But hell to coulda, woulda, and shoulda—Skylar is amazing in bed. His mouth and dick are something out of a novel. I want more than anything to keep this going for as long as I can, but I know just as quickly as this started is as quickly as it will end. I'm not naive to the fact that he is an older man with children. He will put them first; if he didn't, I wouldn't want to deal with a man like that.
He will meet someone who will be the best fit for his family, but for now, I will enjoy the perks of being the best fit for him.
I open the car door and nervously get inside. I don't look back at the twins and fidget, trying to put on my seatbelt.
"Everything okay?" He chuckles.
"Just peachy," I mumble, clicking the seatbelt. Slowly, I turn around to greet his daughters, who are staring at me with wide eyes and grins. What did he tell them before I got into the car? "Hello, girls."
"Ms. Wren, you're coming to our house for dinner!" Gabby's smiles widen. "Daddy said you are coming home for dinner. Is that true?"
"Are you going to be our new mommy?" Bella asks.
I look at Skylar, and he sighs. "No, she isn't going to be your new mommy. She is just a friend coming over for dinner. I thought you two liked Ms. Wren."
"As a teacher," Bella mutters, and my heart drops. Even though these girls are young, they are brilliant. Also, kids speak the truth more than adults. I unclick the seatbelt.
"I just remembered, I have something to take care of. Raincheck on the dinner." I try to open the door, but the door locks. "Skylar?" I gesture towards the door.
He doesn't respond and puts the car in drive. I'm sure he heard what Bella said. She might have muttered it, but it was loud. I get it. Your teacher inserts herself into your life outside of school, which no kid wants. I wouldn't be okay if the shoes were on the other foot.
"I do have something I need to do." I put on my seatbelt, knowing he wouldn't stop the car. Skylar seems like a man who will take what he wants, willingly or by force. Either one will be okay with me. Yet, right now, Bella's words pierced me.
"As do I." He says. "Dinner with you and my daughters."
I open my mouth to speak, but his phone ringing fills the car. I look at the dashboard, and Roxie PA displays on the screen. He ignores the call, but her name flashes across the screen again. He declined the call two more times before the ringing stopped.
I just stare at the window as Skylar chats with his daughters. We drove this way for another fifteen minutes until his phone went off again.
Roxie PA.
This time, he answers.
"Roxie, this better be important."
"Yes," I can hear the annoyance in her voice. I would be, too. As his personal assistant, he should have answered the first time. "Mr. Wilner, from the Mattel Group, just called and informed me that he has an opening for a meeting."
"Perfect. Send me the information, and I will look it over later."
"The meeting is in an hour." She says in a matter-fact tone. I glance at Skylar, and his jaw clenches. I'm assuming he doesn't like last-minute meetings. Being a single dad, he probably has to find someone to watch his daughters. "Hello?"
