Last night was perfect.

Wren and my daughters get along perfectly.

No, Wren still doesn't want to get married. She has been firm in her decision. Even after I made her come countless times last night, she still hasn't budged. I realized sex isnt the answer when it comes to Wren. I'm used to fucking my way into what I want. I used to make women do as I say before, during, and after sex, but Wren... she's not falling for it. A part of me is happy that she isn't, but damn it, I wish she would cave in just a bit.

She was more accepting of trying different positions last night, and I thought maybe I won her over by getting rid of Roxie. Now, I know what I have to do. So, I'm sitting in my home office while Wren is back at her house with my daughters. I told her I had to take care of a few things and would be right back.

That was over four hours ago.

I had my lawyer stop by to draft up a contract, and now I'm awaiting Summer's arrival.

She is at fault for why I lost a great assistant, but she will not be the reason for me losing an amazing woman.

"Mr. Styrke," comes a knock at my door.

"You can come in, Aimee," I say, and the office door slowly opens.

"Miss Summer has arrived," she says.

"Show her in," I command

Summer steps into the room, her presence as striking as always. Her sharp, intelligent eyes scan the surroundings before settling on me.

"Skylar," she greets coolly, closing the door behind her.

"Summer, thank you for coming on such short notice," I say,

"I'm curious what urgent matter requires my attention," she replies, her tone laced with a hint of suspicion.

I gesture towards the leather chairs facing my desk. "Please, have a seat. There's something important we need to discuss."

"If this is about Roxie, I already know."

Of course, she knows. She and Roxie have been in cahoots for a very fucking long time. But thankfully, she has no knowledge of what I'm about to serve her.

"Yes, my wonderful assistant no longer has a job because you used her. If you wanted to be so involved in my life and our daughters, you should have never left us. I wanted you to stay. I wanted you to be my wife. However, you wanted to leave us. You left when our daughters were two years old. You did this, and you have no right to want to disturb my life now. You wanted to live your life as if you didn't have responsibilities."

"Skylar, you know that's not why I left. And involving Roxie was a mistake, I admit."

Summer leans forward, her demeanor softening as she reaches out, touching the surface of the dark mahogany desk that separates us. "I left because we were already falling apart, and I thought it would be easier for the girls if we weren't fighting all the time. It wasn't about escaping responsibility."

"But here's the thing, Summer, we weren't fighting. You were just looking for a way out. I fought so hard to ease what you thought was a burden. You wanted more time alone, so I hired more nannies. You wanted me all to yourself. I stayed home for months, showering you with love and affection. Taking you out on dates and fucking you like you were everything I ever needed because you were. But it wasn't enough, was it? You still walked away."

"Skylar, the past is the past. We can't change what happened, but we need to think about our daughters now. They need stability."

"I provide them stability," I snap back, my voice rising slightly. My hand clenches into a fist, but I quickly relax, reminding myself who this conversation is ultimately for. "I've given them everything they need, but now, it's not just about them. It's about Wren, too."
