If I don't fix this situation with Summer now, I fear I'm going to lose Wren. But there is something that has been bugging me for a while now. Why the fuck is Summer really back? I want it to be for our daughters, but everything she has done since she came back into our lives proves she doesn't care about the girls but only me.
She always wants to know what I'm doing, who I'm fucking, and now trying to get into my house—just the other day, her parents had the audacity to ask me to have Summer move in with me. It's like she's trying to claw her way back into every aspect of my life, a shadow I can't shake off.
I reach out, hitting the button on my phone, signaling for Roxie to come to my office immediately. The door swings open, and she strides in, her brows knitting together in concern.
"How did you find Summer?" I decide to not beat around the bush with Roxie. Things haven't been adding up since Wren came into my life. Roxie has never met any woman, but when she meets Wren now, Summer appears.
Roxie's expression shifts to wary as she settles into the chair across from me, her fingers drumming a soft, anxious rhythm on the armrest. It's no use in her lying to me. Her body language had already told me everything I needed to know. Roxie is behind Summer's sudden appearance. But why?
"And if you think about lying to me, you can turn in your resignation letter now," I add.
Roxie's face is pale, and her lips part slightly as if she's deciding how much truth to reveal. She swallows hard, her eyes not meeting mine as she begins to speak. "I... I've always been in contact with Summer. It started when the girls turned four years old. She would always ask for updates about you and your whereabouts. Honestly, it was harmless at first—she seemed just curious. But then, she started getting more demanding and wanted more detailed information more frequently. I—I didn't know what to do..."
"You tell me. That's what you fucking do, Roxie. You tell me. I'm the boss here. I don't pay you to give a woman who walked out on me and my daughters—"
"I'm sorry, Sky. I didn't mean for this to happen."
"You would think a woman of your age would know fucking better." I rub my hand down my face. I take a deep breath, trying to control the furious storm inside me. Roxie stays silent. "Roxie, you are a great employee, and any company would be happy to have you on their team."
"Skylar..."
I raise my hand, stopping her from speaking, the weight of my decision heavy in the air. "Save your apologies, Roxie. I can't have someone in my inner circle who can't be trusted with the simple truth. It's time for you to move on."
The room grows colder with the finality of my words. Roxie slowly stands, her movements sluggish like she's wading through deep water. She nods, her expression resigned yet tinged with a sadness that almost makes me reconsider. But I can't—my daughters' safety and privacy come first.
She turns and walks towards the door, then pauses, her hand resting on the knob. "Skylar, I truly am sorry. For what it's worth, I think Wren is good for you."
"I know she is. I'll give you ten minutes to gather your things and leave the building. HR will reach out with your final check."
She opens the door and steps out without another word. I press the button on my phone.
"Security," the voice says.
"Roxie Harvey is to be escorted off the premises. Please make sure no company devices or files are on her person. Also, she is not allowed to set foot in this building—hell, not even on this sidewalk."
"Gotcha, boss. I've already pinged two guards to retrieve her." He says before I hang up.
I pull out my cell, call each of my nannies, and let them know that Roxie is no longer allowed on the property. If she comes to my home, I will tell them to call the police immediately. Each one confirms, and I hang up, feeling a slight ease in the tension that's been building.
