At the mountain, the critters were still being rebellious, thinking they were completely free with Burt down.
Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear were playing near the fifty-foot drop.
"What we gon' do firs' now dat Robin de Boy Buzzkill's outta de way?" said Brer Rabbit.
Before anyone could answer, a loud shatter sound was heard.
"What de heck was dat?" said Brer Fox.
Brer Bear found a billiard on the ground and picked it up.
"If day's playin' by tradishnal billiard baseball rules..." he said. "I'd call it a double."
The Brers looked up and saw that the billiard shattered a glass window when it was batted.
"Uh-oh! We gon' get in big trouble" said Brer Rabbit. "Big big big big BIG trouble!"
"No we ain't" said Brer Bear. "Brer Burt's in charge. He'll get blamed."
"Wait. If Brer Burt gets in trouble, he might get kicked off de mount'n" said Brer Rabbit. "I's all faw a little mutiny, but I don't wanna make de guy mizerble."
"It's Brer Burt. He's used to it" said Brer Fox.
"Yeah. Have ya heard his stunt stories?" said Brer Bear.
"An' he still ain't ova his wife" said Brer Fox.
None of that changed Brer Rabbit's mind.
Even though he was a trickster, he always knew when the tricks got out of hand.
So he needed to understand the error of his ways.
"I can't b'leev I's sayin' diss" he said. "But what we did ter Brer Burt's kinda makin' me feel bad inside."
"Well, if ya needs de fartin' quilt, ya know where ter find it" said Brer Bear.
