THIRTY-TWO
QUEEN & GHOST
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIAAFTER THE PHILLY SHOW, THE BAND members all entered the coach bus that was heading to their hotel. Robyn laughed at something Kehlani said when she reached Kairo's seat and noticed the look on his face. She narrowed her eyes while she sat next to him. An awkward silence surrounded them and she crossed her arms. "Wat's wrong with yah?"
"Nothing."
"Trey." She raised her right eyebrow.
"She looks happier, don't she?" He suddenly asked, scratching the back of his neck. She tilted her head in confusion. "Who?"
"Beyoncé." He said, looking around to make sure no one could hear him. Sure enough, the rest of the band mates were either listening to music, falling asleep,or chatting to each other. "Ever since New York, she looks... happier on stage. That's the only time I see her."
"She have to look happy. Fisherman nevah say dat 'e fish stink." She verbalized, rolling her eyes. (A person will never give a bad report about himself )
"What's wrong?" He heard from his right and he sucked in a much-needed breath. Whenever he was trying to hide his emotions, he would be fine until someone asked that question. He shook his head, his eyes beginning to grow blurry.
"Yah need tuh get vulnerable," Robyn whispered, wrapping her arm around him. Kairo knew that was a problem of his. He had grown up in a world that had only attacked him. It was hard to stay vulnerable when he constantly felt as if there was someone against him.
"I love her." He admitted, running his tongue across his bottom lip. "I love waking up before she does and staying in bed longer so I can see her first smile of the day. I love making her laugh... keeping her safe. I love knowing that every beat of my heart belongs to her. I love listening to her talk about her problems especially because she always seemed to have some shit going wrong."
Robyn frowned, trying to figure out who he was talking about. Then, she remembered the question he asked earlier and she narrowed her eyes. She understood that her friend was opening up and she didn't want to ask questions that didn't seem that important at that moment. Instead, she placed her chin on his shoulder. "What do yah hate?"
"I hate being jealous of every fan she smiles at," Kairo revealed. "I hate being jealous of her sheets comforting her in ways that I can't anymore. Jealous of her security being able to protect her. I hate knowing that she's it for me and I ain't it for her."
He clenched his jaw, closing his eyes. "She's the only person who has the power to bring me to my knees and I hate that she doesn't realize that."
Robyn began to hurt for him; she had never seen him this upset. In a way, she wished someone would love her the way he loved Beyoncé. Yes, she didn't even know he felt this way until today but she could tell it was pure, true love. It was the type of love in the books and the movies she watched. The type of love where they get married and love each other until they die. The type of love where in 60 years, they'll still be head over heels for each other.
