Gahyeon awoke by her cell door being kicked open. Sadly all her hopes of getting rescued dissolved the second she looked up from her pillow and saw a stiff looking guard walk into her cell. He didn't say a word, not even spared her a look, and just dropped a tray with food on the floor in front of her.
Now that Gahyeon thought about it and had the food right in front of her nose, she realized she was famished. When was the last time she had a meal? Yesterday morning? She had snuck out of the palace in a hurry, so she didn't have much time to eat breakfast. Her royal tummy definitely wasn't used to such long waiting times between meals.
Without any hesitation she dug into her food, savoring its tastes on her tongue. It wasn't the best food she had ever eaten, yet in this moment there was nothing sweeter to her finally being fed. She could have eaten anything, really.
The clearing of a throat broke her out of her feast and made her turn her head quickly. On the other side of the cell stood the vampire, looking at her with that annoying smirk again. Gahyeon had hoped it had been only a dream, nightmare really, and that she could just wake up today and both, the prison and the monster sharing it with her, would be gone. Just a fraction of her imagination playing a trick on her. But alas. Here she was living out her nightmare.
"Don't feel disturbed by me." The vampire smiled saccharinely. "By any means, continue your feast, princess."
Gahyeon scoffed, wiped her mouth unceremoniously and decided to ignore the devil, at least until her stomach was full again and she could think straight. Today was as good as any day to get some interrogation in. If that monster had to be so annoying, the least she could do is get some information out of her. So when she will get out of this imprisonment, and she will get out eventually, she could report back to her father. And maybe he might even be so pleased by her research, she might actually get to have a better look into his politics. In due time she will become queen of the seven kingdoms and in order to be the best ruler to her people, she must start to understand her fathers workings. So she could continue in his path.
Once Gahyeon had her fill, she stole another glance at the vampire. By now the monster had sat down, her back resting against the bed on the wall, her eyes closed contently. It gave Gahyeon a minute to observe her cellmate.
The girl was lean, yet seemed incredibly strong, only really present in the way she was holding herself. At first her demeanor seemed nonchalant, but there still was a stiffness to it that made her seem slightly on edge. Gahyeon would have laughed if she wasn't so fascinated by the vampire's face. It looked a lot more delicate than she had expected from a vampire. If she hadn't seen the fangs and the blood yesterday, Gahyeon could have easily mistaken the girl for a mere human civilian. Maybe she would have even thought she was quite handsome.
"I can feel you looking, you know?" The vampire didn't bother to open her eyes, and Gahyeon might have been secretly happy about it. She was certain her previous thought, ridiculous as it was, was perfectly displayed on her face. And the last thing she wanted was for that monster to feel any sympathy from her.
So instead she quickly averted her gaze and pretended to look anywhere except the vampire. Only then did she realize that, unlike her, the vampire's door hadn't opened earlier. There also was no trace of a food tray or blood bags. Were they trying to starve her?
Well, good. She had always wondered how long a vampire could go without feeding. And if less food meant less energy for the vampire, then even better for her. Therefore Gahyeon completely and whole heartedly ignored the sudden sinking feeling in her stomach. There was no need for that, right? As long as she would get her food, she would be fine. Who cares about a monster like that anyway?
