Another day had gone by where Yubin barely had enough energy to speak or move. Even at night she wouldn't leave her spot at the barrier, her back against the border.
It worried Gahyeon immensely. Plus, the isolation slowly started to drive her insane and not being able to talk with her fellow inmate made it even worse. Now every waking minute she pondered how she was never able to see who her father really was. She only spent so little time outside the palace and she already saw so much more of the world than she was ever taught, even when she was locked up in a cell. A certain suspicion had always been there, but now she knew for sure what kind of person her father really was. And she didn't like it.
She used to be proud to be the princess, her fathers daughter, future inheritance of the seven kingdoms. Now she only felt shame for her fathers leadership. She had zero understanding for his actions towards his citizens or his politics.
And there was no way she was going back to play his little chess piece. No, she had to do something and she had to do it now. She couldn't wait for the day she would become queen. She had to help make the kingdom a better place for everyone now, before it was too late. Undo her fathers wrongs. Fight for justice. But she couldn't do that locked in a cell, with no way out and a barely conscious inmate.
Gahyeon held up her hand in front of her. The solution was right there. In front of her. In her veins. Pulsing under her skin and through her heart. Making her alive. Representing her anger and determination.
"Yubs, we have to get out of here." Gahyeon said, her eyes still locked on her hand and the crusty parts where she had hurt herself hitting the barrier on day one. They were almost healed, but a shimmer of darkened and dried blue still remained.
There was no answer coming from her friend on the other side of the barrier. No snarky remark, no sarcastic comment. Nothing.
"I'm not kidding. You have to drink my blood." Gahyeon said, firm and unwavering. Maybe it wasn't her preferred option, but it was their only way to get out. It was the only way to help the people out there, all the people that her father mistreated. From the looks of it, it might even be the only way to stop a far between her dad and the vampire queen. If someone could do it it was them, a princess and a vampire, united.
On top of that, Gahyeon was curious. Not just of the world outside, all the places she still hadn't seen, all the people she hadn't met yet. But also curious about Yubin. What kind of person was the girl outside of a prison cell? What was their relationship if they weren't locked up together? What would their relationship be when there was no wall physically separating them anymore? Yubin had said she would help Gahyeon find her friend. Would she stay true to her word and actually go through with it? Or would their breakout be the last moment she would ever see her again?
There were so many questions swirling in Gahyeons head. But the only answer she had was to try. She couldn't control the future, or Yubin, or any other people for that matter. But she could try to do better and hope for the best.
So she was mentally prepared for Yubin to finally bite her, come what may. Still there was no answer from the vampire.
Gahyeon stopped studying her hand and her impending scars on her knuckles and glanced over to Yubin. The girl was sitting against the barrier, as usual. Though Gahyeon realized her body was more sunken, her posture less stiff. Her head was dipped forward, with her hair falling into her face.
Gahyeon crawled over to her, careful off the barrier, to check if the other girl was still breathing. Only when she saw that Yubins chest was still rising and sinking, she could sigh a breath of relief. If Yubin died, then her only way to get out was gone. Her only way to see the world was gone, her only chance to make it a better place too. She didn't want to sound desperate, but she needed Yubin. No, she wanted Yubin by her side.
