Day Seven

"How does it feel to get bitten?" Gahyeon mused aloud. Ever since the day before yesterday, when she and Yubin had that little moment, it has been the number one question spooking around in her brain.

Yesterday had been a quiet day for both of them. Yubin had spent the day mostly in her bed, neither paying attention to Gahyeon nor the fresh blood bag. And Gahyeon hadn't wanted to push her into a conversation, when the vampire was still clearly needing her space. So they had spent the entire day just not saying anything to each other.

But that just left Gahyeon with even more questions and even more time to relieve that one moment, slowly driving her nuts.

"I don't know." Yubin mumbled. She had taken her place again, leaning against the barrier, her back to Gahyeon. Earlier she had moved from her bed to the barrier, albeit slowly, but with determination. And even though she was still hiding her face, Gahyeon took it as a sign that she was in the mood to talk again. There wasn't really much else to do.

"Don't you need to get bitten to turn into a vampire?" She asked, happy that Yubin responded to her question.

"Yeah." Gahyeon couldn't see her face, but she saw her shoulders rise slightly, like a shrug. "But I was so young when Jiu turned me that I barely remember anything. All I can recollect is that she took me in after turning me and treated me like her own kin."

"So she isn't actually your mother? Biology-wise I mean?" From their previous conversation Gahyeon had assumed JIu really was the vampire's mother.

"No, not really." Yubin let her head hang, her blue hair falling over her face.

"But she is still like a mother figure to you? You must have had a strong connection." Gahyeon mused, taking a seat next to Yubin at the barrier.

"Hmmm. She practically raised me." Yubin admitted, only casting a quick glance at Gahyeon beside her, before facing her lap again.

In that second Gahyeon saw how sunken in Yubin looked. Her eyes were missing that little sparkle Gahyeon got used to (and secretly really loved), instead a tiredness took over, making them look glazed. Even her body posture screamed tired. The sight made Gahyeons heart break a little bit. "It must be hard to go against her now."

"Not as hard as seeing her become the person she is today. She didn't used to be so powerdrunken, so ruthless. She used to be kind and gentle and she hated that we were monsters. She's embracing it now and I can't stand seeing her like this." Yubin said, her voice so quiet Gahyeon was glad she was sitting right next to her. Otherwise she wouldn't even have heard her.

"I'm sorry." Again Gahyeon's desire to touch the other girl to give comfort took over. By now she knew better than to try to cross the border though. So she had to hope her voice came through.

"It's not your fault." Yubin then chuckled dryly. "Guess we both have parent issues."

"I guess we do." Gahyeon had to smile too, why she didn't quite understand. "Wait. If you got turned as a child, shouldn't you still have a child body? With the immortality and stuff?"

"That's actually a misconception." Yubin took her time to explain. Gahyeon wondered if by now all her questions about vampires were annoying the other girl. She was definitely annoying herself and was mad how little she actually seemed to know. "We do age actually. Just slower than humans. The older we get, the slower we age."

"Then how old are you?" Gahyeon asked curiously. The other girl looked to be about the same age as her, she couldn't be much older. Maybe in her early twenties?

"27." Yubin answered with a small smile.

At that Gahyeon laughed. She had mentally prepared for a much much higher number, like 150 or something. "That's not so bad. I'm 25. We're almost the same age then."
