When the door to Gahyeons cell swung open, she wasn't even startled anymore. By now she knew it was only her guard bringing her breakfast and not some secret savior coming to rescue her. Still, a girl could dream.
While her guard placed the food tray on the floor in the middle of her cell, the door on the other side of their prison crashed open and another guard unceremoniously threw in a red shimmering blood bag. It landed right beside the one from yesterday, still untouched by the vampire.
For a second Gahyeon thought about not eating again, this time out of sheer protest, but then she heard her stomach grumble and had to dig in. She hadn't eaten anything yesterday, so by now she was famished to say the least. and she did feel the effect of not eating for a day in her entire body. She was feeling weak and out of energy. Even easy movements were a lot more exhausting than they normally were and her ability to focus was dwindling too. If she wanted to get out of here, in what way that may be, she needed all her energy, she was sure. So while not eating would certainly grant her satisfaction, in the end she would do herself more harm than good by starving.
Still, she stole a surreptitious glance towards the vampire, while she stuffed a fork full into her mouth. The girl didn't seem to mind though, she just nodded towards her, wordlessly encouraging her to eat. She didn't spare a glance towards her own food, just left it to lie on the ground. Gahyeon had to say, the determination of the girl was one of a kind.
She ate her food in a hurry, basically stuffing her mouth to its fullest and barely chewing before swallowing. There was a hungry monster inside her and it needed to feed immediately.
"You should slow down, princess. You'll get sick that way." The vampire suggested, paying more attention to whatever was in her hand than the princess in front of her.
"Stop telling me what to do." Gahyeon mumbled between bites and continued her feast. She needed to eat, unless she couldn't guarantee she won't try to kill her cellmate again. If the vampire wanted to live, she needed her to shut up and let her eat.
The vampire raised her hands in defeat and patiently waited for Gahyeon to finish her breakfast, studying her wordlessly. Gahyeon felt a bit watched, but didn't let that stop her from devouring her food. All her poise was gone anyway, so whatever.
After she finished, she pushed away her plate, far far away, if to forget she just did that and examined her cellmate. Per their deal she still had a question to ask. She needed to figure out her next step. In the end she just decided to ask what she was most curious about.
"Why don't you drink?" She nodded her head towards the blood bags. They made her queasy, but she forced herself to look at them. To think their contents once belonged to a living breathing human made her want to throw up her breakfast. Still she stared.
"It's human blood." The vampire shrugged, like that was the answer to all of Gahyeons questions. In reality it just made even more pop up in Gahyeons head.
"So?" She decided to ask, for the lack of a better formulation of her thoughts. It was exactly what vampires fed on, so why wouldn't the girl drink?
"I never had human blood before. And I don't plan on drinking it anytime soon." The vampire seemed insistent, but it made no sense in Gahyeon's head. Wasn't that what she learned from her books? Vampires drink human blood, that's what her books taught her. If the girl didn't drink that, then how exactly did she feed?
"But you're a vampire." Even Gahyeon heard that that was the most stupid comeback she could have given, but her brain wouldn't come up with anything more useful to say than that.
"That indeed I am." The girl flashed her fangs for good measure, making them glisten in the light.
"Then how do you feed?" Gahyeon felt foolish for even having to ask this. It seemed that her studies had been completely wrong about some things. Maybe the vampire was right the other day. Maybe her father purposefully kept her from information from outside the palace. If that was true then ...
