"Can I explain" Yuri asked her as he lead her out the building. He had taken off two of his rings and kept them in his pocket. She didn't care for an explanation nor did she want one. It was 3am according to Yuri, if she could even trust him with the correct time.
"I don't want to talk to you" she forced the words out with clenched teeth.
"You just found out your mother was a bad guy and you have nothing to say to that?" he asked sparing a sympathetic look in her direction.
"No" he began walking faster maybe trying to avoid the awkward situation they both found themselves in.
"You are to report to Riley's house. Riley passed out some hours ago and we took note of Amari driving her home" he took a pause before he continued "It would be easier make up a story in those conditions. We smashed your phone in case of hacking so lie about that too" they had walked all the way to the car lot where she saw the black car she had been in some hours ago. His hands were clasped behind his back like a general giving his orders.
"So when I introduced you to them, you knew everything about them? Wait-....when you met me, you already knew who I was?" he had to be the top ten worst people she met "So you just sat there and watched me make a fool of myself? I hate you" she had never felt more rage than she felt now, she didn't care about his stupid missions or stupid tasks. He flinched like she had slapped him.
"i will get in touch with you to give you more information" he sighed "the driver will take you to Riley's. See you later Marcy" Yuri smiled at her weakly before leaving her in front the black car.
As soon as she sat down in the back of the car, the engine started. The ride was quiet and her heart ached thinking about everything. If she sent her mother to jail, how was she going to ever live with herself? How was Theo going to look at her again? How were her friends going to look at her if she sent their parents to jail? She was sure it would be a life imprisonment sentence and she couldn't imagine taking the blame for making someone endure that. At least there was May whose parents were not in on the whole thing.
They were pulling up to Riley's street and the car was slowly down. She just realized Yuri hadn't told her what to say. He had given her very vague and unclear instructions. There was no way she could just walk into the house with no reason of being here. She didn't even have her phone to call Riley even though she doubted she would answer.
She rang the doorbell about six times before someone opened the door. Riley older brother, Nathan peered out the door confused. She had used the pass code to get through the main gate. They all knew each other pass codes.
"What happened?" his eyebrow shot up when he saw it was Marcy.
"um I just got back from my date and I think I left a bunch of my stuff with Riley and I didn't want to leave them here."the word date sounded so bitter in her mouth especially because it was referring to Yuri "I also heard she didn't feel so good at the party so I wanted to check on her" the lies spilled out from her lips before she even knew what she was saying. Maybe she was good at this spy thing after all.
"What was so important?" she didn't expect him to actually ask her follow up questions. Was he in the family business too? He would definitely fit. He was buff with a snake tattoo on his left bicep and black hair, as dark as Riley's.
"I actually wanted to see if she had my phone, I have been looking for it all night" she technically wasn't lying, she had lost her phone.
"You know her room" he opened the door wide for her to step in to the house. She followed the stairs to the same room she had been in earlier today.
Riley's room door was closed. She pushed open the door slowly and reached for the light when she didn't see anything.
"turn off the lights, you're going to give me a migraine" Riley hissed and threw her hands over her eyes to shield the lights.
"Riley it's me Marcy" she ignored everything Riley said and sat down on her bed.
"what are you doing here? Did something happen?" she shot up from her bed wide eyed like a hunger lion. She wished she could tell her what really happened but she didn't know of Nathan was standing somewhere outside the door. The worse scenario was Riley was already aware of all the bad things going on behind the scene.
"I left a date and I didn't want to be alone at home"her tone was thoughtful. She need to try and convince who basically saw through her.
"the guy from the party?" Riley was probably so confused. This was the first 'date ' Marcy had gone to a while.
"he is just so sweet you know, and he's into fashion and I had a wonderful time with him" the words came out happy and dreamily which was far from how she felt. She wished she could throw a hammer at his head.
"so what did you guys do" She filled Riley up with enough lies about burgers, dancing and karaoke. If she were being honest, she was describing some of the romance novels she had read. Riley was awed and invested the fantasy Marcy was selling to her.
"I'm so happy for you girl" she said pulling Marcy into a tight hug.
Even though it was already 4am, they watched some cartoons on the TV after Marcy had found clothes to change into from Riley's closet. She decided to send a text from Riley's phone to her mom telling her about her broken phone and how she would call her later when she got home from Riley's. She didn't even know what to say to her mom. From now till she eventually sent her mother to jail, she would have to lie to everyone's face. She would have felt more guilt if she wasn't doing it for them.
