Riley was thrown into the air by the other cheerleaders and caught again. She was the top of the pyramid and she smiled brightly as she waved her pom poms. Marcella didn't know why Riley was a cheerleader, it seemed to cancel out her personality. Riley was friendly and smiley but not in the same way a cheerleader was.
The basketball game between Willow high and East western had started sometime ago and they were currently at the half time now. The basketball team were hydrating and getting pumped for their game.
Marcella was seated next to a girl in her biology class, her name was either Sarah Sam, she couldn't really remember. She had been calling May for almost an hour and she hadn't even answered once. It was so out of character for May to miss her boyfriend play and Marcella was scared something bad happened to her.
"Go sharks!" the cheerleaders screamed once more. The skirts they wore would definitely not be considered modest by any standards but the school didn't seem to mind. The blue and white colours of the school decorated the fabric of the uniform.
The school mascot that was without a doubt, a shark, did a cartwheel causing the crowd to scream. Marcella hated sitting down alone without anyone to talk to you. She could make an excuse for Riley and Amari but May was supposed to be here. She checked her phone for texts, expecting to see one for Yuri. She didn't know why she felt bad that he hadn't spoken to her in a week and she knew she wasn't desperate enough to call first.
"Hey Marcy" someone grabbed her from her shoulders. The smell of strawberries hit here before she could even turn around.
"You're very late" she told May as she sat down next to her. May's hair was untamed instead of the perfectly curly state it was always in.
"My mom was going over colleges with me" She looked flustered and confused as she tried to settle down."Did I miss anything?" May said changing the subject.
"Rowan scored one for the team and Riley was the top of the pyramid" she didn't want to ask May more questions so she just went along with it.
"Aww I'm sad I missed that" May said as she scanned the court for who Marcella assumed was Rowan. She looked like a mother that was scared of her child falling off a bike.
The game went on for another twenty minutes and time was running up now. Amari was breathing heavily trying to block a guy that Marcella though looked like a sumo wrestler. The game was tense and the score board showed it was a tie for both teams. The outcome of today's match determined the mood of the school for the remaining month and everyone knew that too.
Marcella's phone rang distracting her from the heated matched. She was about to decline it when she saw whose number was on the screen. Yuri was calling her. Excitement went through her but at the same time she knew Yuri calling was never a good reason. She told May she was going to pick a call and left the noisy area to the car park.
"Where are you" that was the first thing Yuri said to her when she picked up the phone. His voice was urgent and sharp.
"At school, why?" she was puzzled.
"where in school?" he ignored her question.
"At the car park near the basketball court" she said slowly while looking around her. She half expected Yuri to jump out from the darkness.
"I am coming to get you" she didn't like how it made her feel excited.
She was getting tired waiting on Yuri and was contemplating on going back when she felt something dart past her face. She concluded it was her imagination but another object flew past her and brushed her arm. Blood spilled from the tiny cut on her arm. She ducked down before she could even think about what was happening. She heard footsteps in the dark all around her. She was scared this was how she was going to die. Alone, afraid and in the parking lot of her high school.
The sharp objects had stopped flying now and everywhere was deadly silent. The only other sound was the noise coming from the basketball court. She was hidden behind a blue KIA and she knew sooner or later they would find her. She just hoped Yuri found her first.
A figure was coming closer to her and she didn't even have any weapons. She would have called Yuri but she couldn't risk the light of her phone screen giving away her location. She felt the presence behind her but she was too scared to turn around.
"Marcy we need to leave" she was grateful the voice came from Yuri and not a crazy serial killer or assassin.
"Yuri people were shooting at me" she was wide eyed and shocked.
"I know but we need to leave now" he put on hand on her back and she was surprised at how calming his touch was.
"What's going on?" Marcella was scared she might start hyperventilating.
"Do you trust me?" Yuri stood in front her with one hand on her shoulder.
"I'll take my chances" she didn't trust him but she definitely didn't trust those people shooting at her either.
Yuri took her hand as he lead her out of the parking lot. She might have enjoyed it if it were under different circumstances. Yuri led them to his car and she quickly got into the passenger side and buckled up. She was grateful Riley gave her a ride here so she didn't need to worry about her car.
The drive was quiet and Yuri didn't offer to play music like the last time and she didn't ask him too. Marcella contemplated asking Yuri a million questions but they would have to wait till they were safe.
"This isn't your street" Marcella noticed the part of town they were driving down was lonely and dark unlike Yuri's neighbourhood. Was Yuri kidnapping her again? Was she seriously that dumb?
"I know" was all he said in a response.
"If you are kidnapping me again, I will never trust you again Yuri" the words sounded silly coming out.
"It's a trap but it's not for you. Don't make a sound and keep your head down" Marcella's heartbeat spiked up and she felt nauseous.
Although this was better than dying at school, she didn't want her life to end here. She heard the sound of car engines and screeching of tires. Marcella looked in the car mirror and saw two cars approaching with men holding guns out each window.
Yuri had already stopped the engine and left the car before she could speak.
