Chapter 1: Hello, Seoul!
Seoul was beautiful.
Gazing at the towering buildings that make up the city skyline and the subway carts rolling across bridges built over the sparkling Yanghwa river, I feel my heart pump harder in excitement to see the city that will my new home from now on.
"Mi-young! How are you feeling? Sleepy from travelling?"
The woman who picked me up from the airport's name is Ji-woo. She is sitting next to me in the driver's seat of the company car she picked me up in, and navigates skillfully through the streets of Seoul. My eyes are undoubtedly red right now from lack of sleep and the dry air of the plane, but I can feel myself brightening with excitement as the reality of the situation begins to really sink in.
Ji-woo is a temporary assistant for trainees and was specifically assigned to help me through my trainee days. She has a bright smile and seems to be very sharp and knowledgeable.
"Ne, the plane ride was a bit rough, but I'll be fine once we reach JYP. I'm sure my nerves will wake me up well once I'm in the presence of Mr. Jinyoung Park." I laugh, and Ji-woo chuckles knowingly.
"I was there at your audition, and I must say, you really stunned all of us judges, including JYP" Ji-woo glances over at me, and I smile proudly.
"We don't have any girls at JYP who can dance with as much power and style as you- it was a very new thing for us to see at our own company. I know many YG girls have that 'bad girl' type style like CL from 2NE1 and recently, 4 Minute, but that is merely an image given to them by their company. Your style and 'swagger' as JYP called it, is very natural and has much potential to compete with the big female stars with similar concepts."
I feel my pride swelling with Ji-woo's praise, but I quickly suppress it. Even if I do have talent, I can't afford to be cocky as a beginner trainee.
Humbly, I thank her with a smile. I'm sure she detected a hint of my pride, but she smiled back regardless, as if to say 'you pass.'
The commute from the airport to the JYP building takes almost an hour, even with Ji-woo's skillful routing through heavy traffic. The company car is parked in the garage, and as we enter the official JYP building, I am greeted by a burst of cold air.
I breathe a heavy sigh of relief, as I am saved from the suffocating humidity outside.
Just as I take off my cap and begin running my fingers through my sweaty hair and savor the feeling of the cool air on my skin, a voice pipes up to my right.
"Ah, hyung~ did you hear that? That girl just made such a big sigh!"
Following the direction of the voice, I turn to see an open practice room with many boys sitting on the floor, all shining with sweat and now staring straight at me.
I almost choke on my saliva, because of all people, of all times- the second I walked into JYP, I see my favorite Kpop group. Got7.
Before I even turned around, a part of me already knew who had spoken.
In an instant, I am flooded with way too many emotions, but I knew I had to hold them back. Pulling at the neckline of my shirt a few times to indicate that I am just as hot as they are, I look straight at the boy who spoke. His large eyes are fixed on me, and mine are fixed on the patch of blond bangs that popped out from the rest of his brown hair.
Just like on TV.
"It's hot out, isn't it?"
I flash a half-smirk, but before any of them can react, I turn back to Ji-woo, who is already several feet ahead of me, and stride away.
