Chapter 10: Late Night Practice
I sigh tiredly and sink back in the couch of the empty dance studio. It's almost 10 pm, but I need to come up with the choreography for the Seoul Street Showcase as soon as possible.
I've already texted Nami to let her know that I'll be going back to the dorm late, and that I'll be stopping at a convenience store to grab some food for dinner.
At first, Nami insisted that she'd wait for me so that we could at least eat dinner together, but eventually, I was able to convince her to go to bed first. I can tell she's been really putting in more of an effort to spend time with me since Soo-jin left.
As the leader of what would've been "Street 3", Nami's also been blaming herself for Soo-jin's leave and I can't help but be angry all over at Soo-jin again for being so selfish.
Nami's been especially worried these days, as the showcase is drawing nearer and she can tell I'm becoming increasingly stressed out with coming up with the choreography and learning my rap parts to the mix of songs we've chosen. It's a relatively rap-heavy routine, so I've been practicing to be able to rap and dance at the same time without my voice shaking or going out of breath.
Rummaging through my practice bag for a fresh towel to wipe my sweat with, I barely even notice when the door clicks open and a group of people walk in.
"Mi-young!"
I almost drop the towel I just found in surprise when I see Jinyoung, Mark, Yugyeom, Jackson and BamBam at the door. Jinyoung grins widely and waves to me with one hand and carries a convenience store shopping bag in the other.
"Omo! The Got7 oppas, what are you guys doing here so late?" I exclaim. Jinyoung walks over and flops down on the couch next to me, and I catch a faint whiff of cologne on him as he moves to open the convenience store bag.
"We could ask you the same thing," he laughs and hands me a cold bottle of my favorite banana milk. "Nami noona told us you were staying at the studio late tonight asked us to drop off some food for you. So you both will be competing in the Seoul Street Showcase as well?"
"As well?" Echoing Jinyoung, I raise an eyebrow at the boys as I poke a straw through the foil lid of the banana milk. "Don't tell me the Got7 oppas are going to be there to steal the show from us!" I pout.
The boys laugh and lean towards me with excited smiles, "You bet, Mi-young!"
"Of course we'd never pass up a chance to see you do another sexy dance!" Jackson winks, earning himself a smack on the arm from Mark.
"Oh, where's JB oppa and Youngjae oppa?" I frown, realizing that there's only 5 of the 7 of them here.
BamBam and Jackson almost burst into laughter as soon as I say JB's name.
"JB hyung and Nami noona are having a 'movie night' in your dorm" BamBam sniggers and looks at an equally amused Jackson.
Jinyoung sighs at the immaturity of his dongsaengs and explains, "JB hyung and Nami noona just wanted to have some time to relax and Youngjae's stomach hasn't been feeling well since lunch."
"Omo! Poor Youngjae oppa, I will pray for his health!" I clap my hands together and squeeze my eyes shut and pretend to offer my banana milk as a ritual sacrifice. We all burst out into laughter, and I pick up my banana milk back up and sip it happily, glad that I have company now, even if it's just for a while.
What will you guys be performing for the showcase?" I ask curiously. None of their existing dances were exactly fitted for a strictly hip-hop event like the Seoul Street Showcase, except maybe Girls, Girls, Girls.
