Guilt Tripping

Dark's legs began to move once again. His boots created low clacks against the stone floor. Each step was firm, his mind already knowing his next destination. At the end of the hall, 4 doors down from [Y/N]'s room, and on the opposite wall, sat an almost black door. On it, a triforce was placed in the middle, the yellow triangles dim in color aside from the bottom right one. It was colored with gold tint and gave off a soft green glow. Along with that triangle, the one that sat in between the three, the one most assumed to be just empty space, was black, significantly darker that the rest of the door. Just like the triangle of courage, the black triangle held a glow of its own. It was red and was brighter than the green. Intricate designs were carved into the door, surrounding the triforce.

Once in front of the door, Dark stared at the gold triangle. The thought of the person that belonged to caused his upper lip to twitch. He pushed the door open before stepping into the room and slamming the door closed.

The room's walls and ceiling were black, the floor near black, littered with small cracks. The door sat in the middle of the wall. On the wall opposite the door hung a large tapestry of the the triforce. A few lit candelabras on the side walls provided a minuscule amount of light, more than plenty for the shadow male to see.

Dark relocated himself to the center of the room, a maroon rug under his boots. Red glowing orbs glared at the tapestry. He closed his eyes with balled fists. When he opened them moments later, the male was looking at his blonde counterpart.

The hero in green paced back and forth in the castle's spacious throne room. The princess was no where to be seen. Link's face displayed worry, discomfort, and guilt. One hand was placed on his hip, hat in its tight grasp, while the other was near his face as he lightly chewed on the tip of his thumb.

"I messed up," Link muttered to himself, unaware of the invisible presence. "Its me. I'm the reason she fell into that state. I got too focused on my missions. I stopped caring about her." He scolded himself. He stopped his pacing. Glaring at his reflection in the floor, the blonde removed his thumb from his teeth, allowing him to grind them together. His brows furrowed as he squeezed his eyes shut, letting out a growl.

"DAMN IT!!" the hero screamed. As he did so, he swung his arm out to the side, striking a couple of vases. The porcelain objects were thrown due to the force impacted on them before hitting the floor. A series of crashes echoed throughout the room as the vases shattered into sharp pieces varying in size. Neither phased the man in the slightest. He simply stood there, enraged at himself, breathing heavily.

Seconds later, Zelda came darting into the room.

"Link?!" she cried, fearing that he hurt himself. Upon seeing the broken vases, she relaxed. She calmly walked to her friend. "Link," Zelda's voice now soft. "we'll find her." Suddenly, she heard his breathing become unsteady.

"Zelda..." Link whispered, his voice wavering. He turned to face the princess. Her breath got caught in her throat. Tears rolled from his eyes. The bright lively blue his eyes were colored, were now a sea of despair. His lip trembled along with his body. The courageous hero looked anything but.

Zelda pulled him into a hug, allowing him to cry on her shoulder.

"It's my fault... Zelda it's my fault..." he stated. His voice sounded so broken. She never thought she'd see him like this.

"You're right."

Link's head snapped off of Zelda's shoulder. He pushed himself away from her, pulling out his sword and looking around. That voice was all too familiar.

"Link, what's wrong?" the princess asked, spooked by his sudden actions.

"Yes Link, what's wrong?"

Zelda stiffened, now being able to hear what Link heard. The male in green pulled his friend behind him.

"Doing the same thing you do with [Y/N]? Well, used to."

Link growled at those words. "Show yourself!!" he yelled. The next thing the two knew, the color of their surroundings changed. The saturation of the walls, floor, ceiling, throne, even the vase shards began to go away. After a few seconds, the entire room was grayscale. Black smoke formed across the ground and the lights dimmed. Slowly, their view was replaced with darkness, only the area a few feet in front of them visible.

From the darkness, a figure migrated towards them. Red orbs, lit with anger, pierced the dark atmosphere.

"You ask what's wrong, princess, but you already know the answer to that. The hero's right..." there was a pause. Eerie science filled the air.

"It is your fault." the words came from behind the pair, as if spoken into their ear. Link shifted his body to look behind them. Nothing.

"You stopped loving her" the words now came from their left.

"You abandoned her" now from above.

"You treated her like a nuisance" with each statement, Dark's tone was coated with animosity.

"You made her feel unwanted" a growl underlined his words.

"You made [Y/N] hurt herself... for you" The bitter resentment the pale being felt for his opposite began to plague the air. The air thickened, so much so that the young blue eyed man could slash threw it with ease.

But he couldn't.

Link was paralyzed. Paralyzed by the truth his counterpart was speaking. It already hurt like hell to tell himself that he was the reason the love of his life was depressed, the reason she wanted to kill herself, but it hurt so much worse to hear it from someone else's lips, especially when those lips belong to someone he hates.

Finally emerging from the shadows, Dark stood feet away from the hero, his enemy, the man who hurt the only person he's ever held feelings for.

"She did everything she could to help you, make you happy, and support you. But you tossed her to the side, ignoring her actions and feelings, putting your missions before her."

"Shut up! Don't you have anything else to do besides torment him!" Zelda scolded. She rubbed the blonde's back, attempting to bring him back to his senses.

"Tch!"

The princess snapped her head towards the pale being. "What?!"

"You. You have no room to speak princess," Dark spat at her. "You did nothing to help [Y/N]! You knew she was acting different!! You saw her diving into a pit and did nothing!!!" His nostrils flared. Red eyes burned brighter, a nasty wildfire spreading and growing rapidly within them. The smoke on the ground began to shift rapidly as if ready to take the shape of a tornado. The lights started to flicker. The banners on the walls along with the rugs on the floor flailed about. Dark's emotions were presenting themselves in a way he'd never experienced.

"She's lucky I saved her from herself! That I love her enough to want her to live and to want her to smile!!" Dark snarled.

That brought the blonde out of his paralysis. He charged at his counterpart, disregarding the possible consequences. He used both of his hands to clutch onto the collar of his black tunic and shove him to the ground.

"WHERE IS SHE!!! WHERE IS [Y/N] DAMN IT!!" Link screeched, tears tumbling from his eyes. Dark stared at him for a moment. A small triumphant smile sprouted on his lips.

"Safe from you and in a place where she's loved," he commented. Then, before the hero could say a word, his monochromatic form dissipated, the surroundings fading back to normal.
