Neglect

[Y/N] sighed as she looked at the pile of finished arrows then at the pile of unfinished arrows. She had ran out of string, feathers, and wax, all of which she needed to craft the arrows. She also realized she needed more arrowheads so that meant she needed to buy the stone to make them. [Y/N] was a bladesmith so she didn't have to bother buying faulty arrowheads. [Y/N] had only 1/4 of the arrows that her and Link needed to replace all the ones they used on their last venture.

"Guess I'll need to go to the market," she mumbled to herself. After a second, she stood up, slid her boots onto her feet, and grabbed her slightly large rucksack. She slung the bag onto her back.

[Y/N] walked towards the back door, the closer she got, the louder grunts on the other side became. She opened the door to find her boyfriend swinging away at multiple large upright logs with his sword. [Y/N] smiled lightly. Ever since they met, his determination and drive to train and get better at protecting people was a trait of his she truly admired.

"Link, I'm heading to the market to grab some things for the arrows," [Y/N] spoke loudly so he could hear her.

A very disinterested "Kay," was the response she received. [Y/N]'s smile fell a bit. She waited for a moment for him to say something else, but when he didn't, her smile fell completely.

She turned around and closed the door, walking to the front door. As she exited the small house and started her walk to the village market, she couldn't help but feel her stomach turn slightly.

When [Y/N] and Link first became a couple, even before that, Link was extremely protective of her. She knew how to fight and defend herself but, that didn't matter to Link. Whenever they found themselves in a battle, Link made it a point to protect her, always pushing her behind him or him jumping or stepping in front of her. He always hated it when they'd split up, he tried to avoid it as much as possible, knowing he couldn't protect her.

Jealousy was also something Link delt with a while into his friendship with [Y/N], increasing when they became a couple. Every male they became acquaintances with, was like a rival or enemy in his eyes. Before they started dating, Link would do whatever he could to keep the guys away from her but keeping it as 'low key' as possible. [Y/N] didn't mind, in fact she never thought anything of it, never noticing Link's behavior. Others did, however.

Once they did start dating, Link didn't attempt to hide his jealousy/protectiveness. If someone was talking to [Y/N] he'd wrap his arm around her waist. If they were walking through town, he'd never let go of her hand. He'd keep her as close as possible. His eyes would lock onto any male, even children, and deliver a sharp glare acting like a warning.

[Y/N] always found it attractive and cute, and funny sometimes. To her, he resembled a wolf defending his territory. [Y/N] was his. She belonged to him and no one else. To him, being her lover was an award, a trophy, a rank in the pyramid. The only rank higher than being [Y/N]'s lover, was her husband; Link viewed her and him as something greater though, something that put him in a rank untouchable by anyone else. They were soulmates, and she felt the same way.

Recently, however, that feeling was no longer present. Link has changed. He was no longer protective of her. Actually, he never really expressed true care for her safety at all anymore. He no longer held her hand or waist. He no longer cared if any man approached her, much less flirted with her.

He rarely talked to her anymore. He didn't ever try to find an excuse to ignore her, he just did, not bothering to ever really look at her or listen to her when she spoke. [Y/N] eventually stopped trying to converse with him. When she did, he was always focused on something else, only giving her short one word responses, a short hum, a single nod or shrug, or, most of the time, no response at all.

Link would leave without any warning or indication of when he'd be back. Most of the time, she'd find him in the woods or the valley, either training, killing monsters, or stocking up on items.

[Y/N] stopped in her tracks, her thoughts continuing to move, each one like a single piece of sand in a sudden sandstorm, one that showed no sign of slowing down any time soon. Her head dropped and her eyes focused on the small white dandelion in front of her toes.

Memories of her and Link from the moment they met to now began to replay in her mind. The beginning thoughts gave her a feeling of joy and warmth. The more current ones, however, made her feel cold, like someone ripped the warm clothes off of her body and dropped her into a frozen over lake. (Ben Drowned anyone?)

Link used to make her feel special, make her feel like there was nothing that could make them split, make her feel like there was a reason to live. Now, Link made her feel like a nuisance, like an annoying strand of hair that continued to mess with your vision. He made her feel empty.

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew past her. This wind tore the white seeds off the dandelion, carrying them far away and scattering them, much like Link did with [Y/N]'s happiness and thoughts for the future.

Her feet started to move again, stepping on the remains of the dandelion in the process. With a mind now blank, [Y/N] meandered into the village. She lackadaisically entered each store and bought the items she came for. With each purchase she slowly found the task pointless, but continued on, still wanting to help Link.

She entered the last store to buy the stone she needed to make arrowheads. The clerk turned his head towards the door. Seeing that [Y/N] was the one who entered, he gave a closed eye smile.

"Hello [Y/N]," he stated, the joy evident in his voice. When no response came, he opened his eyes. Quickly relocating his eyes on her form, his smile disappeared. She looked thinner than the last he saw her, not a lot, but it was noticeable. The happy expression she usually wore was gone. The sparkle in her eyes was vacant as well.

[Y/N] moved towards the back where a shelving unit stood. On each shelf were piles of different sized blocks of stones and metals. Her eyes lingered on each pile for a few seconds before moving to the next. She finally stopped and grabbed a bin next to the shelves proceeded to place multiple palm sized metal blocks inside. She turned to go to the counter and pay.

She pulled out her pouch of rupees once she got to the counter. She placed three red rupees in front of the man and before he could give her her change, she walked to a separate room, one she'd been in many times.

As she entered the room she struck a match and lit the multiple lanterns that hung on the walls. The room was packed, decked out with tools, machines, and other necessities used to make weapons. She closed the heavy door, careful not to let it slam. She sat the basket down on a table in the middle of the room. Then, she let her rucksack slide off one shoulder then the other, grabbing the straps with her hand and proceeding to set it down in the corner of the room, next to the door, and tucked out of the way.

[Y/N] opened a step stool and placed it next to a wall. Climbing it, she opened a hatch for fumes to escapse. She closed the stool and placed it back where she got it from. Finally, she sat down an began working on the arrowheads.
