*Addi's POV*
"But enough about me and my past." I began to say as I stopped eating my mushroom ravioli. "I want to know more about you three. You're the Volturi Kings, after all, and I can only imagine the things you've seen through your immortal lives. Like, how old are you guys?" I asked, as my eyes brightened with curiosity. Aro exchanged a glance with Marcus and Caius, with their shared understanding evident. "We are over three thousand years old, my dear Addi. We have witnessed the rise and fall of empires, the shifting of continents, and the evolution of human society." Aro replied, with a hint of pride in his voice.
My eyes widened, with my mind racing with the possibilities. "Three thousand years? That's incredible! You must have seen so many significant events throughout history. What about the wars? The creation of historical monuments? Biblical histories?" I questioned, as I leaned forward, eager to hear more. "What was it like during the Roman Empire or the Renaissance? Did you witness the construction of the pyramids?" I added.
Aro chuckled softly, with a reminiscent smile gracing his lips. "Yes, Addi. From all that you're eager to know about, we have witnessed the most remarkable events throughout centuries. The pyramids—an incredible feat of human ingenuity. We were there, watching as they were built, understanding the motivations behind such monumental projects. The labor, the beliefs, the pride of a civilization striving for immortality through their creations." "And the wars, yes. We have seen many. The rise and fall of kingdoms, the struggles for power and the devastation that often accompanied them. We lived through the rise of empires such as the Byzantine and the Ottoman, each shaping the world in profound ways. The stories of heroism, betrayal, and the human condition are woven throughout those centuries and we were mere witnesses to the chaos and beauty of it all." Marcus added.
I listened intently, as my mind continued racing while I absorbed their words. "It's fascinating to think about your perspective on history. Most people only get to read about it or see it in movies." I mentioned to them. "Were you ever involved in any of those events? Did you ever take sides?" I asked. Caius, who had been quietly contemplative, spoke up, "Our involvement has varied throughout the ages. In some instances, we chose to stand back and observe, allowing history to unfold without interference. In others, we took on roles that aligned with our interests or ideals. However, we learned quickly that human affairs are complex, and our interference often led to unforeseen consequences."
"Like the time during the French Revolution." Aro chimed in, with a glint of mischief in his eyes. "We found ourselves amidst the fervor of change and while it was tempting to sway events, we ultimately chose to allow humanity to navigate its own path. It was a tumultuous time, filled with passion and conflict. The fervor of the people was palpable, and witnessing their struggle for liberty was both inspiring and heartbreaking."
My excitement grew with each detail being so intriguing to me. "What about the Renaissance? The art, the culture—it was a time of such incredible creativity!" I said. Marcus nodded, with his expression thoughtful. "Indeed, the Renaissance was a remarkable period. We were in Florence when artists like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci were reshaping the world through their art and ideas. It was a time when humanity began to look beyond the constraints of the past and explore the potential of the individual. We mingled among the great minds of the era, though we had to be cautious about revealing our true nature." He explained.
"Did you ever meet any of those artists?" I asked, with my eyes widened with curiosity. Aro smiled, knowingly. "We interacted with many, but we were careful to keep our true identities hidden. Imagine the chaos if a painter discovered that his muse was not entirely human." He responded. I laughed softly, with my mind filled with images of the past colliding with the present. "You must have so many stories to share. It's like living in a never-ending historical epic." I mused, as I was moving a ravioli around with my fork. The thought of the Kings as living witnesses to history was almost surreal and I could feel my curiosity bubbling over.
