Diego Martinez, the older brother of David Martinez, was a dropout of Arasaka Academy after hanging with the wrong crowd and eventually joining a mercenary group called the "Edgerunners", where he earned the respect of one Lucyna Kushinada, Maine, Kiwi, and Dorio, while being allowed to do his own thing, forming a friendship with everyone in the group, including a special bond with Lucy.
However, there were times where Diego would check on his younger brother, making sure he didn't cause many problems like he did, and yet always kept an eye out for any trouble that was targeting his own family while keeping them in the dark about what he's doing.
One day, Hearing his brother David got expelled after an incident at the school, Diego manages to help David find his footing, but their mother had soon died during a shooting on the highway, casing the older brother to re-evaluate his life and decided to go nomad from the Edgerunners to mourn his mother and spend time with his brother.
Soon after David and Diego were on the train, looking to just have a day in the life, until David would meet a picksocket named Lucy while Diego, now a former member of Edgerunners, would reunite with her.
During their time together, they start to know each other and try to have a partnership with jobs that they would have, but Lucy starts to have feelings for Diego after a few years of friendship and how he admiringly put his family first over the crew.
