Chapter 1: The Unexpected Partner**
Felix Lee had a reputation that everyone on campus knew. He was rich, good-looking, and effortlessly cool – the kind of person who made an impression even if he said nothing at all. But his icy attitude kept people at a distance. He was polite but distant, known for his sharp eyes and the slight smirk he wore that always seemed to say he was above it all. Girls fawned over him, but he barely acknowledged them, and the few who tried to get close were met with a polite yet firm wall of indifference.
For most people, Felix was a mystery. But beneath the surface, he was simply...tired. Tired of his parents' constant pressure, of their strict plans for his life, and of constantly hiding his true self. His last relationship had left him with walls so high, he doubted anyone could ever break them down. He couldn't trust anyone – at least, that's what he told himself.
On the other side of campus, there was you. You preferred to blend into the background. A quiet, studious type, you spent most of your time in the library, going to class, or just keeping to yourself. It wasn't that you disliked people; you just never felt like you really fit in. You'd gotten used to being invisible, and honestly, you didn't mind. Life was easier that way.
That Monday, you entered your literature class, ready for the usual lecture. Your professor, however, had other plans. He announced a semester-long group project that would count for a large part of your grade. The catch? He was assigning partners. You sighed, hoping you'd get paired with someone who cared about the work as much as you did.
**Professor:** "Felix Lee and..." the professor scanned the room, then called your name.
Your heart sank a little. *Felix Lee?* The one everyone talked about? This wasn't exactly the pairing you'd hoped for. You glanced over at him, and he looked just as unimpressed. He met your gaze with a blank expression, nodding slightly before looking away. To him, this seemed like just another annoyance.
After class, you hesitated before approaching him. You weren't sure how to break the ice with someone who looked like they'd rather be anywhere else.
**You:** "So... I guess we're partners."
**Felix:** "Seems like it," he replied, barely glancing up from his phone.
**You:** "Do you want to meet sometime this week to talk about the project?"
**Felix:** "Sure. I'm usually free in the evenings," he said simply. There was no offer to exchange numbers, no further discussion. Just a half-hearted answer before he gave you a short nod and walked off.
You watched him go, feeling a mix of frustration and resignation. It was clear that this project was going to be challenging in more ways than one. Felix seemed like the type who wouldn't care enough to put in the work, leaving you to carry the load.
You headed home, trying to push the thoughts of your difficult project partner out of your mind. Yet, for some reason, Felix stayed in the back of your thoughts, like a shadow you couldn't shake.
