**Chapter 6: Breaking Point**
Felix sat in his room, the heavy silence pressing down on him like a weight. Days had passed since the last argument with his parents, but their words still lingered, circling his mind every time he tried to focus. He felt trapped in a cycle he couldn't escape.
Downstairs, he could hear faint voices—his parents, talking in sharp, hurried whispers. He strained to listen.
**Parent 1:** "He needs to get his act together. I don't know how much longer we can tolerate this behavior."
**Parent 2:** "I agree. He has every resource at his disposal, and he still fails to meet even the basic expectations. It's pathetic."
Felix gritted his teeth. Every part of him wanted to shout, to storm downstairs and demand they stop talking about him like that. But his fear of their wrath held him back. Instead, he stood up and made his way to the living room, his footsteps barely making a sound.
As he walked in, his parents' conversation came to an abrupt halt. They looked at him, their expressions unreadable.
**Felix:** "Why do you always talk about me like I'm not here?" His voice was low, but the anger was unmistakable.
His mother folded her arms, her lips thinning into a tight line.
**Parent 2:** "We wouldn't have to talk about you if you actually made an effort. You have everything you need to succeed, but all you do is disappoint us."
Felix felt the familiar pang of shame and frustration, but this time, something inside him snapped. He took a step forward, meeting their gaze directly.
**Felix:** "You act like I'm some kind of project. Like my entire life is just a reflection of you."
His father's expression turned cold.
**Parent 1:** "If you think you can get away with talking back, you're mistaken. We're your parents, Felix. We know what's best for you."
**Felix:** "Maybe you think you do. But this? This isn't best for me. It's destroying me."
There was a stunned silence. Felix's mother's face softened slightly, but she quickly covered it with her usual sternness.
**Parent 2:** "Destroying you? You're being dramatic. Life isn't supposed to be easy. You need to grow up."
Felix shook his head, feeling the frustration swell within him like a wave. He'd always tried to push through, to make them proud, but no matter how hard he worked, it was never enough.
**Felix:** "I've tried. I've done everything I can to be the son you want, but it's never enough, is it?"
His father's gaze narrowed, his voice hard and dismissive.
**Parent 1:** "If you'd just do what we say, you wouldn't be struggling like this. Life isn't about you, Felix. You'll only get somewhere if you listen to us and stop this nonsense."
Felix took a step back, a feeling of resignation washing over him. He looked at his parents, finally understanding that nothing he did would change how they saw him. There would always be something wrong in their eyes, some flaw they'd point to as a failure.
**Parent 2:** "When you're ready to stop being a disappointment and actually start meeting our expectations, we'll be here. Until then, you're wasting both our time and yours."
The words stung, but this time, Felix let the anger rise. He took one last look at them, his parents already turning away as if he were no longer there, and then walked out.
As he stepped into the night, the cold air prickling his skin, Felix felt a strange sense of release. For the first time, he wasn't filled with shame or anger—only a quiet, determined resolve.
He didn't have all the answers yet, but he knew one thing: he couldn't keep letting his parents define his life. For the first time, he felt ready to step out of the shadows, to figure out who he was beyond their expectations.
Standing alone in the dark, Felix made a promise to himself. He would find his own way, no matter how long it took.
And as he took his first steps down the empty street, he knew he was walking toward something new—something that was finally, and fully, his.
