── .✦ IT WAS THE NEXT DAY, and it was also Hades' arrival. He was only there to save Audrey with his ember and then he would leave... gladly. Evie nor Freddie were allowed in the room with Audrey, so they were currently in Evie's dorm, watching a movie on Carlos' laptop.
Freddie had insisted that he made Evie watch every Disney movie such as The Jungle Book and Bambi etc. They were currently watching Pirates of The Caribbean and Freddie spoke every couple minutes about the characters he loved so much, annoying the hell out of Evie.
"Ooh! That's Jack Sparrow by the way." He reminded and Evie nodded, not in need of a reminder because her memory was actually immaculate but she wasn't about to tell him to shut up and ruin his mood.
But, it got to the point where it got too much and Evie turned her head towards him, placing her finger on his lips halfway through one of his rambles. He kept on mumbling against her finger, his eyebrows scrunched in confusion and he stared into her eyes.
"Babe, I love the sound of your voice but you've been speaking more than all of the characters in all five movies." Evie's voice was gentle yet firm and Freddie grinned, hearing none of her words but the nickname 'babe'. She had never called him that before, and neither has he to her but, it made his heart melt and his cheeks go red like Rudolph's nose, "What?"
"Babe?" Freddie mumbled against her finger and she giggled, removing her finger from over his lips, placing her hands in her lap. Freddie stared at the side of her flustered face, a huge smile plastered onto his lips. He couldn't help it, it was an uncontrollable happiness he hadn't felt in a while.
"Stop staring. Is that Elizabeth?" Evie attempted to change the subject and without looking, Freddie nodded, his eyes still glued to her eyes from the side.
"Yeah..." Freddie spoke quietly and Evie slowly looked from the laptop screen over to him, their eyes locking together perfectly. It was a comfortable silence with only Jack Sparrow's voice in the background and Freddie's eyes lit up with remembrance, he reached into his trousers pocket and pulled out a small dark blue velvet box, "I almost forgot."
Evie sat up, her eyes wide in shock as she stared at the box in his hand, "Uh, what's that?" She flipped some hair over her shoulder and reached forward, quickly pausing the movie so she didn't miss any of it.
"It's a promise ring." He stated, opening up the box to reveal a beautiful golden ring with small ruby gemstones lining the band all the way around. Her hand smacked over her mouth in surprise and she looked over at Freddie, her lips turning upwards into a grin.
"It's beautiful, Freddie! Should I..." Evie removed her sweaty hand from her mouth, both of her hands shaking from pure nervousness and Freddie chuckled, grabbing gently onto her hands with his free hand in hopes to calm her panicking down.
"Here." He grinned, taking the ring out of the box and he held onto the ring finger of her left hand, sliding the ring down slowly until she was comfortable. Evie watched him the entire time, an adorable smile on her face and when he looked up from her hands, they locked eyes.
"I love you." Evie whispered and a wide smile spread across his lips. The three words he had been longing to hear for so long, so incredibly long and she didn't understand how much he loved her back. He fell first, and he fell harder.
"I love you—" And then it hit him.
"I love you." Frederic interrupted, his face inches from hers and she froze, her eyes widened and her jaw slightly ajar. To be completely honest, she didn't have a clue what to say, or think. So, instead of replying to his words, she blinked a few times, looking down to their hands, and that was when his confidence was shattered, "Oh... Don't feel pressured to say it back, I just wanted you to know."
"Yeah, thank you." Evie let go of his hands out of awkwardness and pushed herself up, wiping down her skirt before she spun around, taking a few subtle steps back, "I've actually got class, so, I'll see you later."
"Okay then. See you." Frederic watched with a defeated look as she practically ran out of the room, and he wiped his eyes quickly, knowing that it was a Saturday. He most definitely ruined the moment, and he hated himself for it, he just wished he would've been patient. Stupid.
"—more than you'd ever know." Freddie smiled, hiding the pain and chaos going on behind his falsified happiness. Evie's eyes widened when she noticed, she noticed something she'd never noticed before and maybe that was because she had been completely oblivious to it before, or maybe she just didn't care enough to notice.
He looked down to Carlos' laptop and went to press play, stifling back tears that were threatening to spill. To say that Frederic had strong emotions would be an understatement, and that was what Evie was noticing.
Over time, it explained everything. The times where he was so aggressive towards Chad whilst everyone else was chill about him, the way he tried to hide his pain with humour when in reality he was dying mentally. He was amazing at hiding his emotions, but they were so hard to hide, which was what made him so special and so strong.
Evie reached her newly ring-clad hand over, placing her hand on his jaw and turning his head so that he would look at her. He looked normal, just like he did everyday, but she could finally see through him, through his cracking exterior and it almost made her want to cry.
Evie and Freddie were so alike, only Evie knew that it was okay to show others how she felt about things, especially when she felt hurt by someone but Freddie didn't. And, she vowed to teach him that it was more than okay to open your heart to those who care, and that people do care.
"You're the sweetest, kind-hearted, selfless, funniest, most talented, smartest and cutest person I've ever met, Freddie. Never forget that, okay? I want you to talk to me, don't keep it in, baby. I'm sorry I haven't noticed before." She caressed her thumb over his cheekbone, watching as his eyes watered, causing her own eyes to water but a smile creeped its way onto Freddie's face, a heartwarming, happy and pain-curing smile.
Without hesitation, Freddie practically jumped into her arms, tears spilling everywhere as he squeezed her, and she didn't mind. She played with his short hair, her own tears threatening to spill over but she made a promise to stay strong for him in that moment.
He had needed her love — or anyone's love — for so long and he never received it. Not even from his mother. Nobody was saying that he was unloved, but he was left. He was the friend that was there to help everyone else but nobody was there to help him, not one soul.
But now she saw the light, and she was there, "I'm here, it's okay, Freddie."
