Tommy was right on track to move in with Bruno's Nana, when a few days before he was discharged, she died. How unfortunate. What was more interesting, was people expected him to be sad. "Oh no, a woman I've never met died. How unfortunate. What's for lunch?"

Luckily, the Khan's son Aamir had recently gotten married and moved out, so the Khan's offered the room to him. Tommy accepted. He had nowhere else to go, and as fun as pranking all of the folks of Westview would be, he had heard how traumatized they already were. It seemed excessively cruel instead of funny.

The Khan's house was warm and inviting, and the food was better than anything he'd eaten at the hospital. Bruno was apparently very into learning about their Muslim culture, so a lot of the information was rattling around in Tommy's brain.

Kamala was an Avengers addict, so had taken to educating him on everything that had happened in the last century. Half of that was going on about how Captain Marvel is the best, so she might be a little biased. But he managed to get his mothers history, which is more than Wanda ever told him. Apparently her parents died when their city blew up, leaving her and uncle Pietro orphans at like ten (ironic considering he was ten when she destroyed the hex. History repeats itself). She got her magic powers from a scepter that the Space God Loki used to try and take over New York, while Pietro, who looked like his uncle with a different face, got super speed. They joined a terrorist organization, but defected after realizing some robot named Ultron, who they were working for, was going to kill them all, super fun. Ultron made Vision, Vision joined Avengers. RIP Pietro, Mum becomes besties with Vision, they fall in love, then Wanda is forced to kill Vision, Vision gets brought back and killed in front of her, then she dies. And comes back. Yay!

Kamala had no idea about Westview. Tommy had no intention of mentioning it until she brought it up when they were getting gyros. "-and some local town called Eastview or something was used as a training exercise recently. That's so close - can you imagine if they came here!" she gushed.

"Wait- are you talking about Westview? The whole hex around it?" Tommy frowned.

"That's the name. I heard it was used for a training exercise, but the townspeople refuse to talk about it. Must be some serious NDAs," Kamala nodded. "But if it's for the Avengers, that's super close! Imagine if they came here, found out I had powers and recruited me! Me! That would be a dream!"

"Eat your gyro, Kamala," Tommy sighed.

So nobody knew. That was interesting. Tommy spent a couple of hours scrolling through all of the conspiracy theories and found a couple of interesting ones from some boy named William Kaplan, who apparently saw some runes on the hex.

"Are you looking at the Hex again, Bruno?" Kamala laughed as she climbed through his window wearing her Ms. Marvel costume. She'd settled on the name when she found out Kamal meant Marvel and she shared a name with Captain Marvel. Tommy helpfully pointed out that it wasn't Carol Danvers' actual name, but Kamala would not budge on her choice.

"I was bored," Tommy spun round on his chair. "How was patrol or whatever it was you were doing?"

"Fun. Got a free gyro," Kamala threw a napkin in his rubbish bin and collapsed on the bed. "No Damage Control, which is good. How is your studying going?"

"Thankfully, I still have most of my semantic memory intact, and Bruno was a literal genius, so other than history it's a breeze. Which reminds me - no it doesn't, I was already thinking about it, but anyway. Where did you get that costume of yours?" Tommy leaned back.

"My mum got it from some guy called Luke Jacobson," Kamala shrugged. "Why?"

"Curious," Tommy shrugged.

It was easy to track down Luke Jacobson. Convincing him was the hard part, but when Tommy showed off his superspeed and told him he was the son of the late Pietro Maximoff, the man was convinced.

Luke Jacobson lived up to his name. The costume that he ultimately came up with was green with white linings, and a white-and-silver lightning bolt across his torso, like his Halloween costume.

The plan was simple. Make his debut as Speed, because Tommy was too lazy to come up with anything more creative. Annoy Kamala for an unknown period of time, and then walk into her room in his costume. Easy peasy.

Coming up with the Pietro lie was even easier. The powers matched, and Wanda is the only person who could call him out. And if she did that, she would realize who he is. Wasn't a horrible plan, if he does say so himself.

About half an hour after Kamala went out as Ms. Marvel, three months after Tommy and Bruno had become one, Speed went out for the first time.

5,647 kilometres away, Charlie Spring's head screamed.
