This was the most entertaining thing Tommy had ever seen. The amount of complaining Kamala did was the cherry on top. She was constantly complaining about the insufferable Speed, who had wormed his way into being a social media influencer, so much that Kamala joined to counter his methods, making her own account and reminding everyone this was a forced partnership. It was the most entertaining thing Tommy had witnessed. He assumed Kamala would've loved having a partner and becoming an iconic superhero duo, but she found Speed to be insufferable. Maybe when he stopped being purposely insufferable, she would hate him less, but this was just too entertaining to stop at this point. Especially when Tommy made sure to be a complete angel in public (excluding social media) to drive Kamala insane.
"He's absolutely insane," Kamala groaned to Nakia, who raised an eyebrow. "He may not look insane, but he most definitely is, I assure you."
"He saved my cousin from being shot in the head and was the sweetest to her," Nakia folded her arms. "I think he's not as bad as you're making it seem." Kamala groaned.
The one problem now was something that had been haunting Tommy for a long long while. Ever since he'd been in this body. He'd put off doing it, but crime was quiet for an afternoon, and Kamala could handle it. When he asked for an afternoon off, she folded her arms and told him that she could handle it. Tommy had been dreading doing this for a long long while. But it had to be done. He was so close, he couldn't just not go. They deserved to know he was there, and how he felt about this.
He bought a bottle of wine (by bought he meant used it super speed to take it and leave the money on the counter because they'd never give wine to a minor) and a box of chocolates before driving over. He didn't want to spook them too quickly. And given what they'd been through, they would no doubt be spooked
With his gifts in one hand, Tommy raised his hand and tentatively knocked on the door before he could change his mind and drive away. After a second, it opened to reveal a middle-aged woman with blonde hair, and large purple bags under her eyes. "Can I help you?" she asked with a sigh.
"Hey," Tommy closed his eyes, trying to remember the scripted words he had repeated on the way over. "I'm here to apologize."
"For what?" the woman asked skeptically.
"For all the things my mother did to you," Tommy told her softly.
The reaction was instantaneous. The woman's face crumbled, and she backed away. "That's not possible. She took it down. You are both supposed to be dead," the woman hissed, tears starting to form in her eyes.
"I know. I don't know what happened. I just woke up in this body," Tommy looked at his hands and put the bottle and chocolates down on her doorstep before taking a step back. She should feel better if he looked defenseless, right? "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. What she did to you was horrible. You didn't deserve it. If I had known, I would've tried to stop her. To talk her out of it. I didn't know. Not until after Halloween, and even then I didn't understand it."
"Go away. We don't want you here," the woman spat.
"I know. I just- I'm sorry. I am mad at her too, and I would be furious at me if the roles were switched. I just wanted you to know I am sorry. There is nothing I can do that can make what she did to you better, or that can make it go away. If I could stop all the pain, I would, but I'm not her. And I'm not Billy. Acts of the mind are beyond me," Tommy sighed. "But all I have is speed."
She straightened, stepping closer, some of her resentment fading. "Tommy."
He nodded, picking the wine and chocolate back up from the ground in front of her. "I'm sorry, Sarah. You didn't deserve this," Tommy whispered, holding them out as a peace gesture.
Sarah put a hand on his shoulder. "It's not your fault, kid. You couldn't have known. I'll pass on your message. The others won't want to see you any more than I do," she nodded.
"Sarah, I doubt this is the last time. I think Billy's out there too, and he'll probably want to offer his apologies," Tommy blinked.
"As long as it's not," Sarah paused. "It's okay. We just need time."
"I will give it to you. As much as you need," Tommy nodded. "Goodbye, Sarah."
"Goodbye Tommy," Sarah nodded, wincing slightly as she took the chocolates and wine from his extended hands.
"Bruno is the name of this guy if you'd prefer that," Tommy offered, gesturing to his body.
"Goodbye Bruno," Sarah smiled at him, before closing the door.
Tommy started down the path and hopped into his car. That didn't go as horrible as he was expecting. He was too busy focusing on how the positive outcome of his conversation as he drove away from the Westview residence, he didn't even notice when a silver car pulled up outside Agatha Harkness's residence, and a boy with curly dark hair got out.
A/N - Short chapter, but I think the cliffhanger makes up for it, right? Things are about to get messy :>
I did have an alternate path in mind, but a comment made me rethink it, and I think this is gonna be much more interesting.
