London, 12 PM.

The hospital room felt cocooned in a quiet warmth, with only the soft hum of machines in the background. Harper Rae Lewis lay bundled up in Harry's arms, her tiny fingers wrapped around his thumb, a sight Naomi hadn't stopped marveling at. She was so small, with wisps of blonde hair that already looked like Harry's and Naomi's own features etched onto her little face. Every time Naomi glanced at her, she felt her heart swell almost too much to contain.

"Ready to go home?" Harry asked softly, cradling Harper closer. His voice was filled with awe as if he still couldn't quite believe she was theirs.

Naomi nodded, a mix of excitement and nerves. She couldn't wait to settle into their flat, to have these quiet moments just for the three of them. They gathered their things under the nurse's watchful eye, her instructions floating around them in a haze. It wasn't until they buckled Harper into her car seat that it hit her fully: this was their new life.

The drive home was quiet. Every so often, one of them would glance back to check on Harper, who slept soundly, her tiny hands curled close to her chest. Naomi reached for Harry's hand, and he squeezed it, giving her a reassuring smile. The journey felt surreal, a threshold between the world they'd known and the one waiting for them back at the flat.

They climbed the stairs slowly, carefully balancing Harper's car seat between them. Their flat had never felt so inviting. Naomi breathed in the familiar scent of home, and for the first time, it felt complete. Harry set the car seat down and gently lifted Harper into his arms, holding her close as he took a deep breath.

"Welcome home, little Harper," he murmured. He looked over at Naomi, his eyes filled with a mix of excitement and vulnerability. "Feels strange, doesn't it?"

She smiled, brushing a hand over Harper's tiny head. "Strange in the best way."

They spent the next few hours settling Harper in, though "settling" felt like a loose term. Harry paced around the living room with her in his arms, talking to her about the view from their flat, his favorite football team, and his plans to teach her everything he knew. Naomi watched from the couch, her heart swelling each time he looked down at their daughter with that mixture of wonder and pride.

It was around midnight when they faced their first real parenting challenge: Harper's first round of crying at home. Harry insisted on taking the first shift, determined to prove himself as hands-on. "I've got this," he whispered, bouncing gently as Harper's cries softened for a moment, then returned louder.

"Are you sure?" Naomi asked, stifling a yawn.

"Positive. Besides, she probably just misses her daddy," he replied with a grin.

Naomi settled back, watching as Harry rocked Harper in his arms. He looked surprisingly natural, his face softened with a love that made Naomi's heartache. She could tell he was exhausted, his eyes heavy, but he kept swaying and talking to their daughter, whispering reassurances she couldn't quite hear. Before long, Harper's cries quieted, and Harry's voice took on a soothing, almost musical rhythm.

"She's got him wrapped around her little finger already," Naomi thought, a smile playing on her lips as she drifted off to sleep.

But the quiet moments didn't last. Not long after, Harper's cries echoed through the flat again, waking both of them in a blur. This time, they took it on together, moving through the motions clumsily but with growing confidence. Naomi held Harper while Harry warmed up a bottle, his hands fumbling slightly but determined. They swapped smiles, grateful for each other's presence, even in their half-asleep state.

When it came time for a diaper change, Harry took the lead again, unprepared but undeterred. He spread out every item he could find—wipes, diapers, creams—until the table looked like a mini baby supply store. Naomi stifled a laugh as she watched him inspect the diaper tabs with intense focus.

"You, uh, need a hand?" she teased gently.

"Absolutely not. I've got this," he insisted, fumbling with the diaper tabs and nearly putting it on backward before figuring it out. He glanced up triumphantly, his eyes gleaming with pride. "See? Diaper champion."

Naomi laughed, stepping in to kiss him on the cheek. "You're really something, you know that?"

They continued to take turns, slowly finding their rhythm through each round of soothing, feeding, and tiny mishaps. In those quiet hours, Naomi found herself falling for Harry all over again, each little misstep and tender look adding a new layer to her love for him. By the time dawn light began filtering through their windows, they were both exhausted but undeniably happy.

They settled Harper into her bassinet and collapsed onto their bed, hands brushing as they lay side by side, staring at the ceiling in a mixture of relief and disbelief.

"This is it, isn't it?" Naomi whispered, glancing over at Harry. He looked back at her, his eyes warm and soft.

"Yeah," he said, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. "Our little family."
