it was in the early evening when marjorie sent out an email to all the staff, telling them to come to the conference room once the nursery closed.

marjorie (as siobhan) was the first there alongside carly (as marjorie).

over the next passing minutes, everybody else began filtering into the room, all except one. all the staff were sat around the large, oak table when reece ran into the room.

"marjorie i cannot believe you right now. i broke the boy's heart because of you!" he exclaimed, slamming carly's pink bag on the table.

"hey- that's expensive!" carly began yelling, her words breaking off at the tip of her tongue. she found herself analysing reece in her own body, seeing it from another perspective was weird. the sight of herself felt like an oppressive, angry weight on her shoulders, a looming fog that clouded her every sense.

"you sure about that? because im certain the label on that bag says primark." mia (as reece) interjected. carly only pouted in response.

"right then, shall we?" marjorie clapped her hands together as she spoke, clearly eager to voice her day. "darling, why don't you start us off?"

"don't get me started. first, eric insisted it was a date -thanks carly- and then i had to pay for us both, and he tried to kiss me." reece could barely finish recalling the memory before feeling the urge to gag. "the only good thing from that was the ice cream."

carly remained frozen, listening in horror. sure, she was stressed about eric but also, "reece what did you order? and im sorry- what!"

reece quickly averted his eyes away from the girl. "one scoop of vegan vanilla, why?" he had recited his excuses in his head the entire way home, he expected these questions from the girl.

"show me the receipt." carly's tone fell flat, clearly distressed. the tension in the room grew heavy as all watched in anticipation.

"it was uh- a family owned business, theyre organic! they dont use paper receipts." the words fell from reece's mouth before he could stop them, immediately regretting his own poor excuse.

carly scoffed and stood up, her chair scraping across the floor as it flew back from her. she barged past reece and out of the room. charlotte (as winter) immediately followed suit, calling out her friends name as she chased her.

marjorie hesitated before speaking but she couldn't contain herself, "well that was... something wasn't it?" autumn (as deliah) scoffed at marjorie's audacity and the way she resorted to humour in every adverse situation.

as somebody else's conversation picked up, reece could only look down at his knees, zoning out entirely.

mia (as reece) was speaking. "im not going to waste my breath but roger had a fire in him today."

this caught siobhan's attention and the rest of mia's words fell upon deaf ears. "what?" she muttered, an ounce of fear running through her blood. 'he had a fire in him?' she thought, only upping her anxiety.
