26. To Be Afraid Or Not To Be
3 Days Later
"I had a great time Rafi." Jocelyn turned to Barba, who walked her up to her apartment complex. It was that play that he invited her a while back. It finally happened.
"I should really start bringing you to these. You don't talk during the play." She threw her head back as she laughed. "My mother alway has something to say."
"Growing up, my dad would want to go to see a movie, but my mom and my siblings always had some commentaries. He noticed that I never talked, so he started taking me Friday nights to watch the movie, we would sit there in peace, nobody asking questions. And then Saturday comes by, he would take the whole family and he lets them talk and ask questions." Jocelyn formed a smile as she remembered her father.
"Smart guy."
"Yeah, he was." She looked at Barba again. "Thank you again, really I had a great time."
"No worries, maybe next time you can drag me out to whatever you want." She knew Barba wouldn't want to sit to watch a game with her, but its the thought that counts.
"Dont say something you don't mean counselor." She placed a kiss on his cheek to say goodnight. "Have a nice night, ill see you at work."
"Have a nice one Jo." All of the sudden, Jocelyn felt this burning sensation on her upper chest, Rafael closes his eyes as blood splattered all over his face. Jocelyn tumbled down the steps and laid there. She was shot, she knew the pain all too well.
It took Barba a few seconds to come back to reality before he knew what just happened. He looked everywhere where the bullet came from but when he saw Jocelyn laying on the ground, he raced down there, he didn't care if the bullet was meant for him, he needed to be with her.
"Jocelyn!" He took off his blazer, placing it on her bleeding wound. She held onto his arm, gasping for air. One of her neighbors came out, nearly passing out as she saw Jocelyn bleeding out. "Call 911! Get an ambulance!" Barba snaps at him. Everyone in the complex started to come out, watching her bleed. "Hey! Hey!" Rafael shakes her. "Dont close your eyes. Stay with me Jocelyn!" Jocelyns eyes started get heavy, but with Barba yelling and tapping her cheek was keeping her up.
"Rafa i need-" She pulled him closer. All she could think was Sonny.
"Dont say anything. Keep your energy." He looks up to see the block outside. "Wheres the goddamn ambulance?!" Barba looks at her again, he saw how white she was getting. He made her hold his hand, and not let go. Tears were coming out and down to the sides of her face. It just felt cold. "Keep your eyes on me, dont close them."
