Phones were ringing, papers were rustling, older men talking about their grandchildren, the smell of bread and coffee was always a highlight of my day. Homicide was and has been my specialty. Jocelyn worked her ass off to be here. Sometimes she doesn't believe that she actually made it here.
Jocelyn twirled her pen around her fingers, trying to think about this case. A couple of months ago, a couple were murdered in their home, their son was missing and the person who did this, left no trace of them behind, He was like a ghost and she hated it. She didn't let this one go, she tried so hard to solve it, but she kept getting into dead ends.
"Come on Jojo, take a break." Said her partner, Bruce. He's a great guy, treated Jocelyn like a daughter. He always had her back and she always had his. For a 50-year-old man, he still can beat her with catching bad guys and doesn't break a sweat. "I saved you a donut."
"Alright alright." She picked herself from her chair and followed Bruce into the breakroom. Everyone was in there chatting. "Everyone, lets give it to our new Sargent." Jocelyn took the test about a year ago and word was, Jocelyn Peña was becoming the new Sargent in homicide. Everyone pressed her into taking it, telling her that she deserved it and would be good at it. But someone wasn't very happy about it. Bruce handed her the donut and they started talking about her time in the squad. Today was an chill day, everyone sat back, relaxed. No new cases were reported, no calls, just a good time. These days barely happen, so they cherish it. Jocelyn saw Jensen, coming into the room with an envelope.
"Jenny!" Everyone cheered. He smirks, waving at them. "Come! Help yourself."
"Thanks guys maybe later." Jensen looks at Jocelyn. "Can we talk?" She excused herself and walked out with Jensen and into the integration room.
"What?" He gives her the envelope. All it had was her name on it. She don't know what he's planning.
"Vinny found this in the front, he wanted to give it to you." He grabs her arm. "Don't do anything stupid. Whatever that has, don't do it alone."
"Thanks."
"Can we talk? About us? We-"
"There's nothing to talk about. You made it clear, you wanted a divorce." Jensen shakes his head and plays it off as the room full of detectives were looking at the newly divorced couple. They sipped their coffee and whispered stuff about them. Jensen headed out of the room and Jocelyn went to her desk. She stared at the yellow paper with her name, tore it open. There were pictures of a little boy, alive, and a note.
