I stared at the black and empty casket. It wasn't all that empty though. Her body was there. Just not her. I miss you. I truly do. I sat in the front row. I wasn't listening to a single word being spoken at the funeral. I wandered in thoughts and memories of her as I felt tears swell from behind my eyes. No, not here. I tried to keep calm for the rest of the day and continued to wander in thought. I miss you more than I did yesterday. I mean this more than words could ever say. I'm not good at goodbyes, so I'm not going to let this be one.

Helena, who sat beside me on the couch, leaned her head against my shoulder as she grabbed onto and nuzzled her face in my arm. I looked over at her with a slight smile and kissed her forehead. Her eyes were emerald and her hair was black, messy, and wavy. She wore my white Blink-182 shirt and decided to ditch the whole pants thing since we didn't go anywhere special today. She looked at me when she noticed I was staring at her and smiled as she leaned over and kissed me on the cheek.
We've been sitting here in our apartment for two hours watching Cartoon Network. I was starting to get pretty hungry. "Are you just going to sit on your ass all day?" I laughed.
"Hah, why not? Not like there's much else to do."
"Why don't we just go out to eat for once?"
Helena smiled even wider, her perfect eyes meeting mine and jumped up from her seat and bolted to the bedroom. After a minute I walked over to the door. "Why does it take you like 10 minutes to put on a simple pair of pants?" I asked as I approached our bedroom and leaned on the doorway.
"Gah, don't watch me!" She exclaimed as she struggled to pull up her jeans. Shaking my head with a smirk on my lips, I went to go help her.
"I've seen you get dressed a thousand times." I laughed. "I don't think these fit you anymore, though. Aren't they pretty old?"
She stopped struggling and raised an eyebrow. "Did I gain weight or something?"
She could have gained a few pounds but I doubt she cares. She looks perfect. She decided to put on a different pair of jeans that were black and ripped at the knee.
We then walked out to the parking lot and got into the car. She got in the driver's seat of our old red car. She reminded me to put my seatbelt on since I can be forgetful like that and began pull out of the parking lot. We drove for a good ten minutes. It was mid-may and the windows were riled down. The wind blew my long dark hair back. The warm air with the breeze made me feel like I was in a movie. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I listened to the soft singing of the man on the radio as rested my head back and let myself go.
"Adam, where do you want to go?"
I opened my eyes. "Hmm... Well, I don't have much cash at the moment but I can still pay for the both of us."
She smiled, "Thank you but no need. I can still chip in."
"Nah, don't worry about it." I said. "Want Italian?"
"Sounds good." She agreed.
We pulled into a parking lot in front of a strip mall. Helena reminded me to roll up my windows before she took her keys out. I got out of the car and rushed over to Helena's side and opened her door for her. She smirked and nodded with a "Thank you, good sir."
I felt odd and out of place as we walked up into the crowded location. It was an uneasy feeling. Helena opened the restaurant for for me and we both stepped inside. We were seated by a tall, friendly looking man, no older than 25. We sat down and both ordered our drinks and that's when all chaos broke loose. I heard shouting and Helena and I turned our heads to the same direction to a man standing up, angrily arguing with someone on the phone. He wasn't very tall and his hair was dark brown and cut short. He wore a black suit and was looking rather furious. Everyone around was totally confused as to what was going on. He looked like he was rushing to leave, then in the other direction, a man burst through the restaurant doors with two younger men behind him. He was tall and had short blonde hair and a mustache that was hard to ignore. He yelled to the short man on the phone and they both continued their shouting match from opposite ends of the room. I couldn't tell what they were yelling about.
Everyone was staring at them as they argued back and forth. And that's when the first one pulled out a gun from the inside pocket of his jacket. Everyone scrambled as fast as they could. What the hell is going on!? The man held up his shiny silver gun that reflected light all too well and aimed it at the other. Then he muttered something that sounded like, "I told you I was going to kill you."
The second man did the same and aimed his gun as well. I took Helena's hand as we attempted escape. We started for the back door. What's going on!?
I turned to look at Helena who stared back at me, eyes growing, shocked, confused, and mostly mortified. We both stared at each other for a moment that seemed almost like forever and in that moment we shared something that would soon tear us apart. Fear. Then shots were fired. Helena placed her hands on top of her head and screamed as she suddenly fell onto the floor with a loud thump. I ran back to her side. I held her close to me, lifting her up to help her continue running as the two men furiously shot at each other. The short one ducked and made a run for the exit before Mustache got him then bolted out the front door, as if he left no trace of murder. The short man's figure danced to the floor with a crash, taking a table down with his close to lifeless body. By then, most everyone escaped.
Just then, the friendly waiter came running with a phone to his ear, letting me know he was calling for help before running into the back room. I couldn't drag Helena any closer to the exit so I just stared at her as she sobbed. My heart was shattered. I would never in my entire life want her to be in pain and the look on her face sent horrible emotions through my body. Then I saw the blood.
My heart seemingly stopped for just a moment and time froze. All i could see now was blood... and darkness. My eyes widened as my whole life stopped here. The world stopped turning. The sun stopped shining. The birds stopped humming. The days grew shorter and so did my breath. She looked at me and continued to cry and mumble words I couldn't comprehend. She looked down at her stomach which was covered in blood, running down her white t-shirt. Oh god, they got her. They got her. It's my fault. "Don't worry. Don't worry." I whispered to her but not much came out of my mouth. I felt weak.
Panicked and still unaware of what was really going on, I tried to stand up. I was desperate to help Helena in any way possible. It was weird though. The only thing I could remember was looking back at Helena who lay on the floor clutching her stomach and I thought "I need to help her. Oh god." before everything became blurry and I became dizzy. I felt a slight pain in my side.
"Fuck!" I heard muffled in the background. But the sound seemed so far away. All sound at this point seemed far away. Nothing seemed real to me and my vision was slowly fading.
Everything went quiet as I collapsed on the floor next to Helena and we both stared at each other. She smiled at me a little and I tried to smile back. I could feel my eyelids grow heavy and then everything went black.
