WHY ME!!Chapter 1: A Life Unraveled
___________________________________________
Satsuriku no Tenshi trudged through his days, burdened by a weight only he could feel. Life in the mundane world had long since dulled. His dreams, once vibrant and full of possibility, were now little more than a pile of ashes. Every morning, he woke with the same gnawing question: Why bother?
The darkness within him wasn’t just a passing feeling; it was a constant companion, a shadow that grew deeper each day. It taunted him, filling his thoughts with unrelenting self-doubt. You’re nothing. You’ve accomplished nothing. No one would even miss you.
It was a haunting mantra, one he had repeated so often it had become the truth he believed. He found himself musing bitterly, If I disappeared… would anyone even care? The thought was familiar, almost comforting in its bleakness. For him, it felt like a certainty—a silent acceptance of his own insignificance.
Then, on a day like any other, the world shifted.
Satsuriku was walking through the crowded city streets, lost in the haze of his thoughts. People bustled around him, laughing, talking, living—each one seemingly unaware of the silent battle raging within him. The air was thick with the scent of exhaust, and the sounds of distant laughter echoed like a cruel reminder of a world that had moved on without him.
And then it happened.
A high-pitched, gut-wrenching screech shattered his trance. Tires skidding, a blaring horn. It was as if time itself slowed, stretching the moment out, forcing him to take in every detail. He turned, his eyes catching sight of a truck barreling down the street. In its path stood a young girl, frozen, her eyes wide with terror as the massive vehicle bore down on her.
In that instant, something awakened within him—an impulse, a raw and unfiltered drive. Without thinking, without even understanding why, Satsuriku surged forward, his body moving with a purpose he hadn’t felt in years. All his pain, his failures, his darkness—they melted away. In that moment, he wanted only one thing: to save her.
He pushed her out of the truck’s path, feeling her small, fragile body stumble away from the danger. Relief, fleeting as it was, passed through him like a wave. But before he could fully process it, a wall of pain struck him. The impact was overwhelming, blinding, and in the blink of an eye, his world faded to nothing.
The Void
In the darkness, Satsuriku floated, detached from everything he had ever known. He thought this was the end, that he would finally be free from the burdens he had carried. Yet, as he waited for oblivion, something unexpected appeared.
A light. Blinding. Warm. It was like nothing he’d ever felt—a warmth that seeped into his very being, dissolving the shadows he had clung to for so long. Confusion overwhelmed him, swirling with a flicker of hope he didn’t understand.
And then, he heard a voice. Calm. Ethereal.
“Your life is not over yet.”
Satsuriku recoiled, struggling to make sense of the words. Not over? He was dead—he was sure of it. Yet the warmth, the light, the voice… it felt so real. “What… what do you mean?” he stammered, his voice faint, as if speaking were a foreign concept.
The light surrounded him, pulling him further away from the void, enveloping him in a strange serenity. As his vision adjusted, he found himself in a realm of nothingness, an empty space untouched by time or form. He was not alone.
