A long awaited and much needed POV switch this chapter...like what's been going on in Alex's head?
༺═──────────────═༻ALEX'S POV
It's been a week.
A painfully long, agonizing week since Jasper received that text on his phone. The one that I gave him, with a number that couldn't—no, shouldn't have been easy to get.
It's been hell worrying about him on top of keeping in touch with Veronica about Sadie. Honestly, I'm at my wits end with her. The back and forth, the insults, her saying I can see Sadie soon one day, then saying I need to figure it out with the court another. I could just rip my hair out my damn head.
And the cherry on top of it all, my father has been stacking endless piles of work on my plate. I've began to think he's preparing for a damn war or something with how much he's shoved onto my agenda.
I spin around in my office chair, and lay my head against the back of it, letting out a long sigh. I pull my phone out of my pocket and smile looking at the time, letting me know I can finally leave this place.
I pull up my contacts on my phone and pull up Jasper's number. It's a new one I had him switch to the morning after that night. While we were at it getting him a new number, I also had him delete his social media, in hopes to further deter the fucker watching him. I hold the end of my phone to my ear, listening to the rings waiting impatiently for him to answer.
"Hello?" He says quietly on the other end, his voice sounding tired.
"Hey, how are you doing? I'm getting out of work right now...I should be home in thirty minutes." I chirp lightly, happy my day is over, and that I'll see him soon.
"I'm fine Alex, you know it's only been an hour since you last spoke to me right?"
I let out a small chuckle.
"It feels like it's been longer."
"Yeah-yeah," he says sarcastically, "I'll see you soon then?"
"See you soon."
The line ends silently, and I pocket my device.
With Jasper staying at my place it's been a little easier to go to work every day. His apartment doesn't have a working elevator, let alone a single security camera on the premises. I'd try and convince him to move in but even I know he won't go for that. So, I'm left with basically begging him to keep staying—even though I can tell he's craving his home, the place he worked so hard for. I totally get that, but at the same time I feel justified by asking him to stay, like maybe I can prevent something happening to him this way.
Irrational? Possibly.
We went to his apartment two days ago so he could grab all his personal hygiene stuff as well as a bag of his clothes. And even though I love the sight of him wearing something from my closet, I understand that he wants his own clothes. Funny enough though, he ends up wearing my sweatpants anyways.
