Mina followed Taehee into the small but inviting room that was now hers. The walls were painted a soft cream color, warm and soothing, and sunlight streamed through the single window, casting a gentle glow across the space. It was smaller than her old room, but there was something comforting about its simplicity. Taehee rested a hand on her shoulder, watching her with a careful smile.
"So, what do you think?" Taehee asked softly, her voice warm yet tinged with a hint of nervousness.
Mina took a moment, her gaze sweeping over the compact room. The bed was neatly made, fresh linens giving off a clean, comforting scent. A small desk sat against the wall, and the empty shelves above it practically begged to be filled with her things.
"It's... smaller than my old room," Mina admitted, her tone hesitant. But then she smiled, her expression softening. "But I like it. It feels... cozy."
Relief washed over Taehee's face as she nodded. "Good. I wanted you to feel comfortable here. You're welcome to decorate however you like—make it your own."
Mina's eyes brightened at that. "Thank you. I'll definitely put some posters up."
Taehee chuckled lightly, the tension easing from her shoulders. Then she cleared her throat, her expression growing a little more serious. "There's something I wanted to ask you... about school."
Mina looked up, a faint unease settling over her.
"Do you want to keep going to your current school," Taehee asked gently, "or would you prefer to transfer to one closer to here?"
The question hit her like a stone, and her heart sank. A fresh start sounded appealing for a moment, but the thought of leaving her friends—Heeseung, Aerum, and everyone else—was unbearable. Her days revolved around them, and she couldn't imagine not seeing their faces every day.
"I... I think I'd like to stay at my school," Mina said quietly, her voice soft but certain.
Taehee nodded with understanding, her expression kind. "I thought you might say that. Don't worry—we'll make it work." She gave Mina a reassuring smile before standing. "I'll let you settle in. I'm going to make us something to eat."
As her mother left the room, Mina let out a long breath and turned back to her new space. The reality of this place was beginning to sink in—it was hers now. It felt strange, a mix of relief and longing churning inside her. Without hesitating, she began unpacking her suitcase, carefully folding her clothes and tucking them away in the small closet.
The scent of fresh bedding filled the air as she laid out her covers, smoothing the edges of the blanket. Her desk came next, where she arranged her notebooks, pens, and a framed photo of her friends—a small attempt to bring a piece of her old life into this new one.
A gentle knock at the door pulled her from her thoughts. She turned just as Jungkook's head peeked inside, his warm smile lighting up the space.
"Need a hand?" he asked, his voice easy and familiar.
A grin spread across Mina's face, the heaviness in her chest easing for the first time all day. "Actually, yeah. Folding all of this by myself would take forever."
Jungkook stepped inside and crouched beside her on the floor, where piles of clothes were scattered. "Alright, I'll stack, and you fold."
Together, they began sorting through her belongings. The simple rhythm of working together quickly turned into easy conversation.
