As I made my way into the lecture hall, I saw the normal scene of chatter between all the other students. The small cliques were talking up a storm and no one seemed to notice my entrance, which was fairly nice for me.
When my eyes wandered to my normal seat, I saw Elsa looking at me with a welcoming smile which froze me mid step. She waved her hand at me, beckoning me to come take my seat next to her. I was... shocked to say the least. She hadn't talked to me in the past seven days, and now she's acting as though nothing happened? Umm... I don't think so. Something's up. I can just tell.
Pushing away my suspicions for a moment, I plaster a smile on my face and take my seat as though it were normal. (I mean, I don't really want to cause a scene in front of all these other students.) "Hey." I say, before allowing an awkward silence to fall between us, I cross my fingers and hope Elsa will actually respond to me.
"Gooooooooooood afternoon." Elsa says all too energetically, making me even more suspicious about why she's suddenly in such a good mood. "How are you on this lovely day?"
"I'm great. Hans and I went for a walk before this, so it was a fairly nice morning, considering the fact that he actually talked to me for the past week." As I finished my response, I narrowed my eyes at her, making sure that she knew I was clearly annoyed.
"Well, sorry about that." She looks away from me momentarily only to quickly turn back with an energetic smile spread across her lips once again. "Have you-"
"Seriously. You ignore me for an entire week, and all you have to say for that is sorry?" My self control is almost entirely out the window at this point, but I manage to keep my voice at a normal, if not fairly quiet, volume. I know I said I didn't want to cause a scene, and I'm not going to. I'm just really annoyed and not in the mood for a cheerful conversation with the person who's been stressing me out over-... Something she won't even tell me! Trust me when I say that you'd be doing the exact same if you were in my shoes right now. "Do you know what it feels like to be ignored by your best friend for a reason you don't know? Well I can tell you this, it sucks. I might be able to understand this whole thing if you just gave me a valid reason as to why this whole thing happened in the first place."
Elsa pauses, obviously hurt by what I had said. "I-" She quickly cut herself off and took a deep breath before speaking again. "Anna, keep dating Hans. He makes you happy, and that's what I want. I should've realized it sooner, but I was just really worried about you. You've dreamed of dating him for so long that when a petty rumor started floating around, I started thinking he wasn't good enough for you." A sigh could be heard as she finished her confession. "I just... I just really don't want anything bad to happen to you. You're practically my sister Anna, and I over reacted. I'm sorry."
All though I was slightly shocked by what Elsa had said, I didn't hesitate to throw my arms around her in the tightest, most bone crushing hug I could muster. "Oh Elsa... thank you." I may not know what made her change her mind, but it doesn't really matter right now. What matters now is that I have my best friend back.
Elsa slowly wrapped her arms around me, which was slightly difficult due to my grip on her. "Why are you thanking me?... I've been so horri-"
"Thank you for always being by my side." I pulled myself away from her and smiled. "Besides, I bet that rumor you heard was a big bunch of bologna."
"Yeah," she laughed softly, most likely at herself. "I bet..."
"Excuse me," the sudden intrusion of a foreign voice makes me jump and turn around extremely quickly, only to barely miss coming into contact with a complete stranger. "I don't mean to interrupt, but are these seats taken?" He gestures to the seats to the left of mine, politely smiling at me and Elsa.
"Umm, I don't think so..." I look at Elsa, making sure I wasn't giving false information to the new(?) student. She shook her head, telling me I was right.
His smile seemed to widen. "Great, then do you mind if my friend and I sit there then?"
"Knock yourselves out." I give a small smile to him in return. Man, it's almost halfway through the first semester... what an odd time for anyone to just randomly transfer, change courses, or start college. Well, he seems nice enough. Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be sour.
I'm about to attempt to have a fairly normal rest of today, but Elsa apparently had other plans. "Anna!" She excitedly whispers at me. "Anna, look at that guy's 'friend'!" Before I look over, I can already tell she thinks there's something special about him. She has this odd way of being able to tell when a person has remarkable quirks about them. There's no other reason for Elsa to get this excited over a stranger, unless he brought a cat to class... which would be awesome, but that's highly unlikely.
I turn my head to look at the two guys next to me, and what I see of "the friend" doesn't really strike me as extraordinarily... extraordinary. His hair is a striking shade of white and his skin almost matches in shade. His attire consists of a well worn blue hoodie and brown pants (and hopefully shoes, but I can't see his feet so I have no idea). So peculiarly dressed maybe, but I don't think there's anything remarkable about him- but I can see why Elsa would think so... Blue and white are kinda her thing.
"Well, we should probably introduce ourselves," Blondie says, interrupting my evaluation of his friend. "I'm Kristoff Bjordman, transfer from a community college north of here."
"And I'm Jack Frost. I- uh, well I just changed my classes because accounting was ridiculously hard." He chuckles softly. "So, you may have seen me on campus before, but I highly-"
"Oh my gosh!" Elsa quickly raised her eyebrows, as if she'd just realized something utterly obvious. "I have seen you before! You have a long-board, don't you?" Her enthusiasm might have made her statements sound sincere and innocent, but I knew what she was up to. She's trying to slide, as smoothly as possible, out of the title of acquaintance and right into the friend zone (due to her being the biggest extrovert at times). Granted, to make the assumption he rides a long board is a little risky unless she actually has seen him before....
"Yeah, I actually do," Jack said slightly shocked. He obviously didn't expect either of us to know that he existed prior to our meeting.
"I knew it," Elsa said while smiling with pride. "Well, I'm Elsa Winters." She raised her hand and gave a slight wave. "Pleased to meet'cha."
I glanced back over at the two guys that were now sitting next to me and something felt... off... I don't know how to say it, but I have this nagging thought that one of them is going to cause something big... Wait a second! Jack has the same white hair as Elsa's (granted his is actually a little whiter...), could that mean he's a magical ice wizard too?! I'd totally ask him but I mean, I just met the guy like two seconds ago and I don't want to-
A quick jab at my side quickly took me away from my thoughts and brought me back to the present. I had begun to stare right at Jack, and Elsa had taken the initiative to break my trance. "Oh!" I quickly scrambled in my thoughts to introduce myself. "I'm Anna Reed." After bright smile at both of the boys, I look over at Elsa and see her staring at the notes on the table in front of her already. "I guess this totally cliche meeting means that we're all gonna end up being best friends, right?" My comment earns a laugh from everyone, and I'm pretty sure that was everyone's way of saying yes.
