My first update! Hope you like the story! It's kinda a short chapter, but just to get the book started.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"She's upstairs," I hear my mom yell as I continue typing in my laptop. I was working on summer homework, the day after school just got out. Figures. That's me. No way I'm saving that until the last minute.
"Hey," I hear Dylan say as he walks in my room and takes off his shoes. He jumps on my bed and looks up at me, only to find my eyes locked on the computer screen. Dylan grabs the laptop and closes it while putting it on my desk. You could say Dylan was a procrastinator and waited till the last minute to do everything. But, somehow he still managed.
"What's up Dyl?" I look to my right and see him looking right into my eyes.
"Your mom said we could come over for dinner, so my parents and sister are here. Where's Rachel?" Rachel was my older sister. I swore on my life Dylan had a crush on her. His sister, Julia, was good friends with Rachel.
"She's not here," I said quickly. "She had softball practice." Dylan nods and turns to my closet. He looks inside and sees that I still have my Ouijia board that I've had since I was eight.
"Can we play?" Please? We never play, like ever." He's such a little baby. Dylan was fourteen, but acted like a seven year old. He always had an obsession with that Ouijia board, ever since we meet. I was turning fourteen in a little bit, as for Dylan, he was turning fifteen at the very beginning of the school year. Or the very end of summer. August 26. We were still in the same grade though because his parents held him back a year. They thought he would do better in kindergarten as a six year old. I wasn't complaining.
I look at him and give him a look that says 'grow up.' Eventually, we were called down to dinner. Julia left before dinner to go meet up with her boyfriend, so it was just me and Dylan around our parents for dinner. They told stories about their childhoods and about high school. I could see me and Dylan in this spot in fifteen years. Both of us married with two kids each. Still meeting up, talking about old times and when we were teenagers. Granted, we still had a long ways to go.
After dinner, Dylan and I cleared the plates and headed back upstairs for a movie. Honestly, he was probably gonna end up staying the night. Dylan grabs the popcorn and I grab the movie. We decide to watch Ms.Doubtfire. A classic.
"Hey Penny," Dylan says. I turn to him with popcorn in my mouth.
"Yeah Dyl."
"Can we talk, it's kinda important."
"Sure, what's up?" I ask, acting as if it's not a big deal.
"I want you to know I'm leaving for the summer. I found a really cool acting camp in Hollywood and I'm moving there for the summer to live with my aunt." In my head I'm thinking that Dylan can't go. Summer just began and he's gonna leave. He's my best friend.
Instead I look to him and say, "When do you leave," trying to hide my true emotions.
"Um... Tomorrow. But I'll only be gone for the summer! I'll be back for school."
"Yeah that's chill Dylan. Make sure you bring me back a gift!" I turn my head back to the movie and try to act calm. Dylan looks at me and you can see his frown grow. He was upset, obviously, but I didn't wanna talk to him about it because I only had one more night with him until he would leave. And he was coming back right before freshman year was going to start. I'm really gonna miss Dyl.
After the movie is over, I get on the top bunk and Dylan gets on the bottom. All I can think is about Dylan leaving and never coming back. Would he do that? All these thoughts surround my mind and after an hour of laying in bed, I finally decide to close my eyes and let my thoughts wander. Dylan was probably already asleep. I mean he had a long drive ahead of him tomorrow to Hollywood.
