Well, it seems like Mia really was not that hard to convince. She said she'll think about it because as much as she wants it, she cannot risk her life. Mia can no longer do life-threatening missions because she now has a purpose to live. She now has someone to live for and it will forever haunt her if she ever leaves Peter alone in this dark world. That is her biggest fear and the last thing she wants. Peter is too young to deal with her death if ever it happens.
Later that evening, Fury personally called her to assure her and talk more about the details that the mission entails. Apparently, she is sent to spy on Tony Stark for more reasons than one. Mia could hardly believe her ears as Fury convinced her. She usually doesn't do these jobs that involves her face being revealed. It was usually Natasha but it was her who was sent to do the job.
First, her major reason for spying Tony is to assess if he is suitable for the Avengers Initiative. That includes his behavior, capability, and personality. She needs to see how he works with a team, how he handles problems, and how he can save the world if need be.
The last time Mia was in the field, the initiative was a mere plan. Now, it seems like Fury is finally making a move. It took him seven years to make his first move. She can only assume that the man has a plan prepared in advance.
Second, she needs to monitor his health and technology as well. SHIELD is already aware of the poisoning done to his body due to the palladium in his heart reactor. Mia needs to make sure he doesn't suddenly die. After all, if the arc reactor gets to the wrong hands, it only means more chaos and mess.
Third, is to once again ensure his security. Due to his tech, money, and reputation, Tony Stark surely had made a couple of enemies for himself. Enemies are always tailing behind his back, and she has to make sure none of them actually manages to do so.
Her fourth and final goal, is to control his reckless behavior. Tony tends to be reckless at times and Mia must make sure she can control him before it gets out of hand and makes a decision that could endanger him and the people around him.
Mia could hardly control her emotions as she walked along the walls of Stark Industries. However, she can easily mask it thanks to all those years of training. It was more nerve-wrecking for her to leave Peter, although with a guardian, she was still wary. They were in NYC; anything could happen at this point. Besides, it was the first time she got separated with her son where she cannot simply go to him at any given time. Not like when they were in England.
She braced herself and fixed herself as she made her way to meet the father of her child.
Her mission did not entail a lot of information yet. So far, Tony is dying because of the poison, and he has turned over his billion-dollar company to Virginia 'Pepper' Potts.
As soon as she entered a room of some sort of a boxing room, she met Happy Hogan and Pepper Potts.
Happy Hogan, Stark's head of security and a former SHIELD agent. Pepper Potts, Stark's secretary but was now the newly appointed CEO of the company based on the paperwork Mia's currently holding.
Mia felt the eyes following her as she arrived.
"I promise you this is the only time I will ask you to sign over your company." Pepper spoke, wearing grey coordinates and standing on the corner of the ring. Inside the ring, Tony and Happy were doing their thing.
Mia smiled and approached Pepper, opening the folder. "I need you to initial each box." She spoke in a weirdly sweet voice. She watched as Happy and Tony exchanged punches, much to her amusement.
