The sun streamed through the hospital window, casting a warm glow over the small room where Jet lay recovering. Bible sat beside him, a soft smile playing on his lips as he carefully arranged the flowers he had brought, brightening the sterile space with bursts of color. His heart swelled with a sense of purpose, knowing he was here to care for Jet, the person who had become so important to him.
“How are you feeling today?” Bible asked, his voice gentle as he turned to Jet, who was propped up against the pillows.
Jet offered a faint smile, his face still pale but his eyes sparkling with gratitude. “Better, I think. Just a bit sore,” he replied, shifting slightly as he tried to find a comfortable position.
Bible's brow furrowed with concern. “Are you sure? I can get the nurse if you need anything.”
“I’m okay,” Jet assured him, waving a hand dismissively. “But I could definitely use some company. It’s been way too quiet in here.”
“Good thing I’m here, then,” Bible grinned, playfully nudging Jet’s shoulder. “I brought snacks.”
“Snacks? What kind?” Jet perked up, his expression brightening at the mention of food.
“Your favorite—pocky and some pineapple tarts,” Bible said, reaching into the bag at his feet. “I thought we could have a little picnic.”
Jet chuckled, the sound warm and inviting. “A hospital picnic? You really know how to make a guy feel special.”
“Only the best for you,” Bible replied, handing Jet a package of pocky. “Now, don’t overdo it, okay? You just got out of a pretty intense situation.”
As Jet munched on the pocky, Bible felt a lightness in the air. They exchanged stories, laughter, and memories, creating a cocoon of comfort around them. For the first time in days, the weight of grief felt a little lighter.
Just then, Bas burst into the room, a teasing grin plastered across their face. “Well, well, if it isn’t the lovebirds,” they announced dramatically, placing a hand on their hip. “Are we interrupting a romantic moment?”
Bible's cheeks flushed crimson, and he shot Bas a playful glare. “Shut up! We’re just hanging out.”
“Oh, come on! It’s adorable!” Bas laughed, making their way over to Jet. “How are you feeling, superstar? Survived a shark attack and still look this good? Impressive!”
Jet chuckled, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “I don’t know about superstar, but I think I’m doing pretty well. Thanks to my wonderful boyfriend here.”
Bible felt his heart flutter at Jet’s words, a warmth spreading through him as he met Jet’s gaze. He couldn’t help but smile at the affection reflected in Jet’s eyes.
“Boyfriend, huh?” Bas teased, wiggling their eyebrows. “That’s a bold move! So, does this mean I get to be the best friend of a scuba diving instructor? I could really use a cool story for my Instagram.”
“Shut up!” Bible laughed, shaking his head in embarrassment. “You’re such a dork.”
“Hey, I’m just here to support your budding romance,” Bas replied with a smirk. “But really, I’m glad you’re okay, Jet. You had us all worried sick.”
“Thanks, I appreciate it,” Jet said, his tone sincere. “It’s been a crazy few days, but having you both here makes it easier.”
Bible watched as Bas and Jet exchanged playful banter, their laughter filling the room with infectious joy. It felt so good to be surrounded by love and support, and he silently thanked the universe for keeping Jet safe.
After a while, the conversation turned more serious. “So, what’s the plan now?” Bas asked, leaning against the wall. “Once you’re out of here, I mean. Are you going back to diving?”
Jet shook his head, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. “I think I need a break from all that for a while. Maybe do something less intense—like working at a beach bar or something. Just to regroup, you know?”
Bible nodded, understanding the weight of Jet’s decision. “That makes sense. You should do what feels right for you.”
Jet looked at him, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. “Thanks for being so supportive. It means a lot.”
Their eyes locked, and Bible felt a rush of warmth as he held Jet’s gaze. It was moments like these that made all the chaos and pain worth it.
Just then, the nurse walked in, breaking the spell. “Hello! How are we feeling today?”
“Great! Ready to get out of here,” Jet replied, his voice brimming with newfound energy.
Bible couldn’t help but smile at Jet’s enthusiasm. “Soon, I hope,” he said, exchanging glances with the nurse. “He deserves some time in the sun.”
“Absolutely! Just a few more tests, and we’ll see about getting you discharged,” the nurse said, jotting down notes on her clipboard. “In the meantime, don’t overdo it with those snacks, okay?”
As the nurse chatted with Jet, Bible felt a sense of contentment wash over him. He was grateful to see Jet smiling and laughing, surrounded by people who cared about him.
After the nurse left, Bible returned his attention to Jet, who was leaning back against the pillows, looking more relaxed than ever.
“Hey, you know what?” Jet said, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “If you keep taking care of me like this, I might just have to keep you around for good.”
“Is that a proposal?” Bible teased, a playful smile on his lips.
“Maybe it is,” Jet replied, a smirk playing at his lips. “But let’s not rush into anything, right? I still have to recover from almost drowning.”
They both laughed, the sound echoing through the room, lightening the heavy atmosphere. In that moment, Bible felt hopeful about what lay ahead, knowing that together, they could navigate whatever challenges came their way.
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting a warm golden glow over the hospital room, Bible leaned back in his chair, feeling at peace. No matter what happened, he knew he would always be there for Jet, just as Jet would be there for him. And for now, that was enough.
