It's the middle of the night and Sam finishes getting ready. He gets off the bed and reaches for his bag.

"Sammy?" He winces at his sister's groggy voice. He leaves his bag and turns to her.

"Hey." He whispers, looking over to make sure they didn't wake their brothers up.

"What are you doing?" Rachel grumbles, propping herself up on her elbow.

"I, uh... I can't sleep. I'm just going for a little walk." Sam lies.

"In the middle of the night?" Rachel frowns.

"Just around the block a couple times. I'm fine, go back to sleep." Sam says, smoothing her bedhead down and lightly patting her on top of the head.

"Are you sure? Dean did drop a giant bombshell on--"

"Rach, I'm fine." Sam insists. "Go to sleep."

"Fine." She grumbles, lying back down. Sam grabs his bag and quietly leaves.

"Where the hell is he?!" Dean exclaims.

"How the hell would I know?" Thomas retorts. "I was asleep, too, dumbass. Not like he left a note or anything."

"I-I might... well, I don't know anything." Rachel says.

"What?" Dean snaps at her.

"I-- he left in the middle of the night. I-I woke up to him getting up, he said he was going on a walk." Rachel says.

"And you believed that?!" Dean yells.

"It's not absurd, he's done it before!" Rachel defends.

"You didn't think to prod him for information?! Or, hell, maybe stop him!"

"Well, what did you want me to? Tackle him like a freaking football player? He'd swat me away like a fly!"

"You should've woken us up!"

"I thought he was going on a walk!"

"And you really believed--"

"Hey!" Thomas shouts, moving in once Dean takes a step towards Rachel, the girl backing up. "Watch it." Thomas stands in front of his sister, holding an arm out to Dean. "What I told you about Sam applies to her, too."

"Stupid." Dean mutters, rolling his eyes.

"Okay, she's not stupid, she was half asleep and Sam going on a walk is a perfectly believable excuse. Especially after he learned dad wants you to murder him."

"He doesn't--"

"Whatever. But we will find Sam or he'll at least come back because he still likes us." Thomas says.

It's nighttime and Dean is driving while Thomas sits in the passenger seat and Rachel is in the back.

"Hello?" Dean picks his phone up. He puts it on speaker.

"It's Ellen."

"Hey, have you heard from Sam?" Dean asks.

"I have, but he made me promise not to tell you where he is." Ellen says.

"Come on, Ellen, please. Something bad could be going on here, and I swore I'd look after that kid." Dean says.

"Doing a stellar job." Rachel mumbles, missing the glare Dean gives her through the rearview mirror.

"Now, Dean, they say you can't protect your loved one forever." Ellen says. "Well, I say screw that. What else is family for? He's in Lafayette, Indiana."
