"Alex, why did you do that?" Kay asked while looking at the older girl, not liking what she did
Alex let go of Kay's arm, crossing her arms over her chest as she glared at the girl
"Don't tell me you actually believe that girl is your friend." She sneered, her words were harsh and cold
"She's using you. I mean really? She just comes out of nowhere and wants to be your friend? Don't be naive, Kay."
"But isn't that how we became friends?" Kay said to Alex, she wasn't wrong, I mean that's how most people become friends with other people
Alex gritted her teeth together in frustration, not wanting to admit that Kay was right
"That's different." She snapped, running a hand through her hair "She can't be trusted. What if she hurts you or something?"
"How do you know that she can't be trusted? We just met her today" Kay replied, not liking how Alex was acting, it was so uncharacteristic of her
Alex's jaw clenched tightly at Kay's question, she didn't like how stubborn the girl was
"I can just tell." She said coldly, her eyes flicking over to the girl
"I can sense evil and there's something off about that girl." Alex's tone was almost intimidating, but there were also some hints of concern
"You say that about everyone I try to be friends with" Kay called Alex out on her actions, they had been friends for years and she saw how Alex would act when she paid attention to another person
Alex was taken aback slightly by Kay's outburst, she didn't expect the girl to call her out. She turned to face Kay, her expression changing into one of disbelief
"I do not." She protested, her voice rising slightly "I just want to protect you. Why can't you understand that?"
"Yes you do, you did this 3 times this year" Kay was getting sick and tired of Alex acting like this
Not letting her get close to anyone or make any new friends, she love Alex dearly but the way she was acting was pissing her off
Alex winced slightly at Kay's words, feeling a pang of guilt course through her. Her eyes met Kay's, she could see the disappointment and annoyance in the girl's eyes
She took a moment to collect herself, sighing heavily as she ran a hand through her hair
"Look Kay, I'm sorry... I didn't mean to be too overbearing. I know I can come off like that sometimes, but it's just because I care. You're my best friend and I don't want anything bad to happen to you."
Kay was just tired of this BS, Alex said this every single time, and Kay remembered the words by heart because of how many times this had happened
Alex noticed the exhaustion and irritation in Kay's expression and her heart ached. She hated seeing Kay like this, especially when it was because of her
She stepped closer to Kay, reaching out to gently grab the girl's hands, holding them in hers
"I promise I'll do better. I won't get in the way of you making new friends. You're allowed to have other friends besides me. I just..."
She trailed off slightly, looking down at their hands "Want to protect me, I know Alex....I know" Kay said as she took her hands away from Alex
Alex felt a pang of pain in her chest as Kay took her hands away, but she didn't try to stop her
