Sunny was approaching the front entrance to the Leo Institute of Dueling. An institution designed for purely advancing the art of dueling. No more, and no less.
After all these years of living, Sunny never made any friends, and his only interest was action duels. Thus, his mother enrolled him in LID, hoping he'd finally make friends.
He supposed it was a logical idea, and he didn't object since he'd be learning more advanced dueling techniques and how to properly utilize the extra deck, but making friends seemed like a far-off goal.
Today, he'd have to choose which classes to enroll in for the rest of the year. The day before real classes started. Sunny sighed and walked towards the doors, intending to push them, but they opened automatically.
Sunny, embarrassed, put his hands away in his pockets, trying to play off his unintentional zombie-walk through the doors. He could've sworn he heard snickering somewhere.
The inside of the building was quite beautiful, having modernistic architecture... or was it postmodern? Sunny didn't know what the correct word to use was, but it looked nice was the point. He went towards the front desk, standing behind a blonde boy in line. He was around the same height as Sunny, maybe a bit shorter, with a pink flower in his hair that could barely be seen around his hair.
The boy turned around after finishing a conversation with the man at the front desk and nearly jumped with shock. "Oh! I didn't know anyone was behind me, I'm sorry I took so long!"
"It's alright, I just got here," Sunny said with a blush. The boy looked surprisingly pretty.
The blonde boy nodded and awkwardly looked around as Sunny remained silent. "W-Well, I guess I'll see you around school!"
"Uh... yep, see you," Sunny agreed. The boy walked away, and Sunny hadn't even gotten his name. He wanted to hit himself for being so awkward. He felt like an idiot, needing friends, yet being so horrible at trying to make them. There went opportunity number one.
"Full name and birth date?" The man in sunglasses at the desk asked, snapping Sunny's attention back to the task at hand.
"Sunny Dorian, July 20th," he answered, almost stuttering from being caught off-guard.
The man typed something in on his computer, "You're already enrolled in the mandatory classes. What electives would you like to sign up for? Here's a list sheet," The man handed Sunny a list of class options.
"Trap Basics. Spell Basics. Ritual Basics. Fusion Basics..." The list went on.
"How many electives do I need to choose?" Sunny asked, curious about what he was limited to.
The man answered promptly, "Four, two for each term. I suggest sticking to just one extra deck class. They're more complex than they look."
His advice fell flat. "Even Link Summoning?" Sunny asked with a quizzical look.
"Well, it's the easiest out of them, but it still has its struggles. I swear, all of you first-years want to try every summoning type at once. The last kid chose three in one go!" The man shook his head with disapproval.
This just made Sunny want to try it, too. He knew his deck was made for Synchro Summoning with its Tuner monsters, and it was made for Pendulum Summoning, with its Pendulum Scales, so that was two classes decided...
"Synchro, Pendulum, Link, and Trap Basics, please," Sunny quickly listed. The man in sunglasses sighed and typed his choices into the system.
A printer could be heard behind the desk, and the man yanked a paper from it and gave it to Sunny. "Here you go," he said, straightening his tie, "These show what your teachers' names will be, and what floor and room they teach on. Thank you for choosing Leo Institute for your classes."
"Thanks," Sunny said succinctly as he left the counter behind. He didn't want to leave the building just yet, though, so he took the paper as an excuse, sitting on a bench and reading it over.

The list of classes was definitely going to need to stay on hand for Sunny. Remembering all of this in one day would be impossible.
Sunny looked up from his page as he heard arguing. "Okay, okay, just stop dragging me, Aubrey, I was just about to go inside!"
There was a tan boy and a pink haired girl, both qualities being the first thing that struck Sunny about them. "Don't give me that bull, Kel. You were trying to look cool for those girls by the entrance! We don't have time for flirting with random people!" The pink-haired girl shouted without a hint of shame for her volume in a public space. It was almost admirable.
Similarly, the boy who was being victimized by her verbal stabs seemed unaffected. "Oooh, you're jealous, aren't you."
Aubrey, now flushed, punched Kel over the head, "Shut up, you dunderhead! Let's just sign up for classes, and I hope we don't share any!"
From his seat, Sunny was hoping the same thing. Moreover, that he wouldn't get any classes with them.
Sunny decided now was the time to vacate the premises. He looked up at the TVs along the back wall. They all displayed one thing or another, primarily school related, except one TV currently displaying an ad for Leo Corp. anti-aging technology. Sunny knew all about it since his mom used the stuff. She didn't look or feel a day past 20 because of it, but it started to be a bit weird as Sunny aged without her. Most of her friends clearly did the same, though usually Sunny hid away in his room from them.
Leaving the building, Sunny wondered what would happen if he were to use the technology. Something designed to remove evidence of aging and heal aged organs and joints probably wouldn't do anything, but he imagined the idea of it turning him back to as he was as a child. Would it be worth going back?
After some thought, probably not. Soon enough, Sunny came upon his home and entered. "Mom, I'm home," he announced.
